The Walking Dead Episode 15: The Tower

We have hit the penultimate episode of season ten, and it will have to last us for a while.

Due to COVID-19, they weren’t able to finish VFX on the season finale, so we must wait. Even though it wasn’t one of the strongest episodes, this week, we got some bonding moments, met a new friend, and saw Beta talking to walkers.

Let’s start there.

Beta

Well, Beta and his humongous hoard over took Alexandria. Though no one was there as the residents left before he came.Poor Beta. Out of nowhere, he hears a voice, and he deducts they went to Oceanside. He tells them to gather the Guardians, and they leave.

While marching toward Oceanside, one of the whisperers accidentally calls Beta “Alpha” and that makes him mad.

Grabbing the Whisperer, he gets out his knife, but that voice tells him to be patient again and walk.

The Woods

When they reach the edge of the woods, the voice once again says to look around and reminds him the citizens left first. That’s when we see the voice. It’s’s one of the walkers. Beta is talking to the walkers.

Now, we don’t know if he’s’s gone completely crazy, or he has gained the power to do so, but it creeped me out. Well, Beta listens and notices broken twigs heading a different direction and then a cat runs by. He knows which way they are, and they end up surrounding the tower they’ve been hiding in.

The Tower

Well, the remaining people of the Hilltop massacre, Alexandria and Oceanside, have gathered at a tower.

It was overrun with cats, but they got them out. Poor kitties. I have nicknamed it “Cat Tower” in their memory.

Kelly and Carol

Now I’m not a huge fan of Carol’s, but this made me feel for her. While collecting some parts for Luke, Carol and Kelly have a chat. When Carol apologizes about the cave, Kelly tells Carol that Connie said to her that her superpower was her loss of hearing. She then tells Carol that who she is will always be her greatest strength. Kelly tells Carol she is a “lone wolf,” willing to do what needs to be done on her own, and that’s her superpower.

Carol seemed to be very thankful for Kelly’s words. Kelly may be young, but she has opened my eyes to being more accepting of Carol.

Negan and Lydia

In one of two ultra-cute bonding sessions, Negan gets Lydia to let out her growing anger. He tells her that she shouldn’t be mad at her mom and that she should be mad at him and hit him. He also confesses that he really did like Alpha.

This sets Lydia off and allows her to release that inner anger. She tells him that he has no right to tell her she can’t hate her mom and that he only killed her mom to look like a hero and starts hitting his chest and crying. Negan just pulls her in and lets her cry, saying it’s ok. Anyone who says he doesn’t have a heart isn’t watching close enough. He is the parent Lydia always needed.

Daryl and Judith

Judith also has some inner fear, anger, and hate, let’s hope she doesn’t go to the dark side. She tells Daryl she wants to learn to do what he does and protect people. And we get our first father/daughter bonding moment with these two. He takes her on his patrol of the border, and they run into a Whisperer.

Daryl shoots and wounds her. After revealing no information for the group, he kills her. Judith doesn’t like that he killed her and left her in a ditch alone. When Daryl asks what’s wrong, she says, “what if she has a family? What if you were lost and no one could find you? Or RJ was. Or mom… I just want us to be back together again.”

Judith then tells Daryl about her mom helping some people but omits the part about her dad possibly being alive. I really wish they would’ve had her tell him. She wants Daryl to promise he will never leave but he says no one can promise that but she has a family that will always protect her. I am so glad that they’re taking the time to show some actual story instead of just the killing.

Aaron and Alden

Alden and Aaron have been spying on Beta in Alexandria and are glad to hear he fell for their trap. Unfortunately, as they follow them, they notice they’re changing course and head towards the tower. When Aaron tries to radio Gabriel to get people out, he is met with static. They turn to head to the tower but are attacked by a walker and then held at gunpoint by an unknown assailant. I am hoping that this is how Maggie comes back in.

I just hope that both Aaron and Alden make it out alright.

Princess

Meanwhile, the King, Yumiko, and Eugene are getting to know Juanita, AKA Princess better.

She tells them that she chose Princess because she didn’t care for her given name and because Queen made her sound old. She tells them she has some “wheels” at a garage. After the debate, they decide to follow.

After almost getting them killed in a minefield, they finally arrive and find out she meant bicycles. Eugene is panicking because he wants to make it to meet Stephanie, and Yumiko just thinks she flat out lied. But after some thought, Yumiko invites Princess, who has been living alone in the city for a year along with them.

I can’t wait to see what trouble these four can get themselves into.

Final Thoughts

This felt more like a filler episode than a lead up to a season finale, but it was good. The emotional connections were wonderful, and it was great to see everyone trying to learn sign language. I hope we continue to see more interactions between Negan and Lydia and that Judith tells Daryl about her dad soon.

Unfortunately, any answers will have to wait. With the virus delaying the last episode and work on the new season, we will be without our heroes for quite a while. But I am more than sure when it returns we will be blown out of the water.
