The Baker and the Beauty Episode 3: Get Carried Away

If you’re anything like me right now in this crazy world, you’d like to be on a beach somewhere. How does Puerto Rico sound, rich with culture and delicious food, warm people, and a fancy gala? Well, if your name is Daniel Garcia, that becomes his reality in the next episode of the Baker and the Beauty. While Lewis might despise the idea, Daniel and Noa are getting closer, and who doesn’t love the idea of a romantic getaway?

Quick Recap – Noa and Daniel

Things are going well for Daniel Garcia. While his family tends to the bakery back home, he heads on a business trip of sorts with Noa. She is hosting a gala for the work she’s done in Puerto Rico, helping build schools following devastating Hurricane Maria. The two of them get several moments alone, despite Lewis’s constant efforts to try otherwise (including hotel rooms on separate floors). Together, they try authentic PR food and flirt themselves across areas of the town. Once they arrive back at the hotel, Piper has terrible news. A pipe burst in the hotel and everything is ruined for the gala, food and decorations included.

Thanks to Daniel’s quick thinking, they are able to save the event. It moves outdoors, and they hire the people who make a living on the island selling food. The event is saved, and everyone seems to enjoy themselves, our blossoming lovebirds as well. That’s until Colin, Noa’s ex, shows up attempting to ruin plans and Daniel in the process. Either he’s not over Noa, or he’s jealous, but he tries to threaten Daniel. Impressively, Daniel does not seem intimidated, and he gives him a verbal ass-kicking. Daniel leaves with Noa, and the two quickly define PDA all through the hallways of the hotel, then to the balcony. Trouble is? Someone’s always watching…

Mateo and Vanessa

Last we saw Vanessa, she was pretty pissed off about Daniel. Rightfully so. But now, still maybe a bit irritated, she’s thrown herself into work, and she’s showing a house to a man who seems quite well off. He admits he needs a DJ for his son’s bar mitzvah, and Vanessa says she has someone for the job. She tries to contact Mateo, who thinks her contact is for other reasons and avoids her call. She shows up looking for him and tells him her plan.

At first, Mateo is thrilled and goes to meet with the man. Vanessa tells him little about the job, and when he learns what it was for and how precise the man wants it run, he turns it down. Only to find out minutes later that the person he was talking to is a major record label executive. Vanessa thinks he’s an idiot (as I’m sure she thinks runs in the Garcia family genes at this point) and, with some unique efforts, manage to rescore the gig.

Natalie and Amy

Thanks to Mari, Amy comes over the Garcia house. Natalie is clearly nervous and a bit unsure of herself, which shows more any time her family gets involved. Mari seems excited that she has anyone over, a sign that maybe Natalie is a bit of a loner since she’s so focused on school. The two are so close to kissing when the door opens up, and Mari again walks in, Natalie deciding for Amy to leave instead of staying for dinner. Once she’s gone, Natalie is clearly upset. Mateo, big brother extraordinaire, swoops in to save the day. He seems to understand that Amy isn’t just a friend and proves that big brothers are simply the best.

Mari and Rafael

Toward the end of the episode, Rafael admits that he’s nervous about Daniel’s relationship with Noa and how it might affect him. He says to his wife that once this all settles down and he returns to normal, what will happen? Mari seems quite content with how her children are these days and doesn’t seem too concerned about what may or may not happen, at least right now.

My Top Five Moments

5. Daniel verbally kicks Colin’s ass.

Imagine being Daniel. You’re an everyday guy who has been thrust into this insane world. Noa is drop-dead gorgeous and interested in you. Now, imagine her super hot ex (come on, no one can deny that) comes in and tells you he secured her life long dream of becoming an actress. To be fair, Colin seems to think that Noa’s wish to act is higher than her disgust for him, but Daniel doesn’t know either or. He just sees a man with a lot more power and money than he has. And interestingly? It doesn’t stop him from telling him how he feels about Noa or the situation. Its pure gold to watch on TV, and it shows that you don’t have to throw a fist to pack a punch.

4. Natalie and Mateo talk in her room.

There’s just something about your older brother who always seems to swoop in at the right time. This scene is so pure and genuine and is a more honest side of Mateo that we haven’t seen much of yet. He’s goofy and confident, but he’s also protective and loving. Natalie is in a tough place in her journey, and she clearly trusts her brother’s insight and help. There’s also something about her bedroom that makes me really happy.

3. Daniel singlehandedly saves the day (and then everyone helps).

Honestly, this might not seem like a significant moment in the scheme of things. Or maybe it’s a big deal that Daniel was so instrumental in saving the day. However, this show makes my “feel good” feelers go off the charts, and everyone needs a bit of that right now. Seeing people, some that know the event is for Noa Hamilton, and others who may not come together to put on one hell of an event is inspiring considering the times. Everyone chipped in and made the event a success. Even Noa, who with her star power, could’ve gotten away without lifting a finger. She’s not your typical celebrity for sure.

2. Vanessa helps a Garcia when she doesn’t have to.

I know Dean Georgaris said that we’d see more to Vanessa in the coming episodes. And, I do think it’s very telling of her character that she is willing to help Mateo despite all that’s happened in the last few weeks. I have said previously, and I stick by this, that once you propose publicly, you have to live with the fallout. Granted, Daniel’s not innocent. Sure, he clearly wasn’t happy, and he has every right to move on, but he was with her for four years. Would it kill him to slow down a little? Vanessa and Mateo definitely have more coming their way, and I bet she’s moved on in no time at all.

1. The overall scenery and atmosphere of Puerto Rico.

One of my absolute favorite things about Dean Georgaris’s shows is the atmosphere and the way everything is set up. Whether it was The Brave‘s missions in different countries or Bluff City Law‘s use of Memphis, Baker proves no different. The culture of Puerto Rico makes this episode. Since the show was filmed there, it gives authenticity to every scene and takes viewers on a fun journey of understanding the people who live there while simultaneously allowing a love story to unfold. You will get caught up in all the action and depth and love the show more by the end of the episode. Promise.

Onto the Next Episode…

Next week we learn what happens when PDA mixes with celebrity life. Will things stay as fun and charming with Noa and Daniel as real-life hits them? Tune in on Monday night, at 10 pm on ABC.
