Lincoln Rhyme
What happens when you mix Greg House, medical genius, and Sherlock Holmes, detective genius? You get Lincoln Rhymes (played by Russell Hornsby). The premise is pretty straight forward.
Three years ago
Lincoln Rhymes, a forensic criminologist, and detective is now a tetraplegic. This is from chasing the Bone Collector, a serial killer he had been tracking. His Fiancé and son moved away for their own safety while he also drove them away with his attitude. However, he does play video games with his son all the time.
I find this dynamic interesting and nice at the same time. The fact the one person Lincoln relaxes and is normal with is his son, is really heartwarming.
Now
The Bone Collector is back and he has to find a new way to catch him.
His Team
Rick Sillitto (played by Michael Imperioli) comes to his old partner with plans to get him to track down the newly returned Bone Collector.
With state of the art equipment, NYPD officer Amelia Sachs (played by Arielle Kebbel) becomes his eyes and limbs. She witnessed her parents get murdered and now raises her sixteen-year-old sister, Rachel. She is pulled into the whole thing when she finds a body while patrolling the subway. His tech guy is Felix (Tate Ellington).
Kate (played by Brooke Lyons) who is a forensic scientist who worked with Lincoln three years ago rounds out the team. Kate only agreed to return if Lincoln promised to listen to her more and respect her as well. Lincoln also has a full-time caregiver named Claire who also acts as his assistant as well. She suffers from Agoraphobia.
What we have Learned so Far
So far we have learned that Lincoln enjoys the company of others who have been broken like him. This also explains what we learn about the Bone Collector: who moves around in plain sight. He’s also married.
Lincoln, like the Bone Collector, is a narcissist if there ever was one. He believes he is a genius in every category. Amelia doesn’t understand why so many people tell her to let Rachel know about being a target of the Bone Collector even though her sister was kidnapped and almost killed by a copy cat. Even after receiving the Bone Collector’s message he was watching, Amelia still hasn’t told Rachel and I’m sure that’s going to backfire badly on her.
Felix doesn’t like to be yelled at. We don’t know exactly why but he must not have been treated well and being yelled at makes him nervous and upset. Kate just wants respect. She finally gets some when Lincoln lets her go to an actual crime scene and search it herself.
So where does that leave us?
Episode 4: What Lies Beneath
When a seventeen year named Josh is murdered just eight months after his mom died under mysterious circumstances, Lincoln gets the case. Not only does Amelia have to deal with Lincoln being annoyed at everyone just because Claire told him he should get out but she has to deal with Josh’s younger brother Ben.
Ben thought it was his stepfather Ray, though all evidence pointed toward Doctor Wasden, a mortician at the school Josh’s body was found at.
So, who was it?
Well, it turned out to be the so-called loving friend Melissa who poisoned their mother Grace with cyanide all because she found out that Melissa and Wasden were embezzling money from the school.
Case closed.
The Bone Collector
Well, after scaring his wife by kidnapping and killing her friend (which his wife doesn’t know about), she thinks there is a kidnapper loose in the area. So, they move back to New York. He is ready to play.
Asking For Help
Lincoln learned a big lesson about asking for help and admitting he is wrong sometimes. After yelling at Claire for just looking out for his well being, he apologizes to her in his own way, making her happy. He even adds to it by finally leaving the apartment with a friend who was also paralyzed in the line of duty. They went to the park to play chess. His friend asked an elderly man sitting next to them to move the pieces for him and he accepted.
Watching Lincoln learn that the other people on his team need respect is a warm welcome.
In Conclusion,
After just four episodes this show continues to be a smash hit. Each week, we delve into the mind of a serial killer but the world from a point of view we normally don’t get to see. We see it through that of people with a range of disabilities, physical like Lincoln and some mentally like Claire. I am also really rooting for Amelia and Lincoln to be a couple by the end of the show.
