FBI Episode 21: Appearances

Following the murder of a decorated FBI Agent Greg Kennedy, Maggie and OA must find his killer, while keeping his wife (also an FBI agent) from finding out information that may hurt her personally.

Agent Kennedy was investigating a new club the night he was murdered, originally leading the team to believe they must be involved. Kristen, ever so resourceful, proves this might not be true. She finds video footage near the club of Agent Kennedy romantically involved with a woman. Bell, having promised Kennedy’s wife, Linda, that she would solve his murder, doesn’t know how to deal with this information.

The Devil … went to NYC?

They find the woman’s name from her social media; her name is Bonnie and she is a bartender. While she has been involved with Agent Kennedy for a short while, she was working during the time he was killed. Bonnie does tell them that he planned on meeting “The Devil” that night.

While Maggie lies to Linda about the new information, she asks if she knew anything about someone called the Devil. This leads the team to look into another person of interest, Mason Thorne. Thorne is part of a biker gang called the Mongrels, a group that Kennedy had investigated before. They head to the club and find the gun, but no Thorne.

Eventually, with the assistance of the biker gang’s leader, Tommy, they find Thorne… dead in a storage unit he was hiding out in. Out of resources, they go to Thorne’s lawyer and ask if he can help them. At first, he seems willing (he was the reason they found out more about the Mongrels), but then he comes into the interrogation room where Tommy is being held and says he’ll be representing the entire group.

Lawyers… they lie?

Something is clearly wrong. OA wonders if they should look at Bonnie again, but then Kristen finds a lead. The lawyer, Krawley’s briefcase is lined with red silk like found on the gun. She also finds him on a polecam outside of the Mongrel’s clubhouse, but they can’t tie him concretely to the murder. The team has to move fast and solidify this case.

Meanwhile, Maggie struggles to keep information away from Linda. She reminds her that everything has to be done by the book.

Thankfully, as the team delves into Krawley’s financials and history, they find a text that links him to the murders. He was meeting with Thorne and a man named Mike Rizzo. Rizzo is a meth dealer who Krawley represented several years ago. Kennedy arrested Throne on the meth charges, and Maggie hypothesizes that Thorne flipped on Rizzo and Krawley to get out of jail time. As Krawley was the one to introduce the two criminals.

Creative Charges

Bringing Rizzo in on “creative charges” (per Jubal), they are able to get him to flip on Krawley. The team goes to arrest him, but he isn’t at his law firm. The receptionist tells them the other Agent already knew this. Alarmed, Maggie realized Linda must be on her way to find him herself. They head back to the Mongrels club, as Krawley was spotted there and hear gunshots as they near it. Inside, Krawley is dead and the shooter is gone.

Maggie, hearing someone outside, chases after them assuming it is Linda. Much to her surprise, she comes face to face with Tommy, who admits someone who crossed the Mongrels has to die. They arrest him, and Maggie goes to talk to Linda. She tells her she was glad he wasn’t there when he got to the law firm, as she didn’t know what she would’ve done had he been. She admits to Maggie she knew about the affair and said that she believed Kennedy still loved her and they would’ve worked it out.

The episode has an ironic twist. Maggie asked that her husband’s death be investigated, and Kristen found potentially worrisome information that she brought to OA in the middle of the episode. Her husband was meeting with a woman named Angela Perez late at night and sharing (pricey) meals. While Kristen isn’t sure if it was professional or personal, she is hesitant to tell Maggie.

Maggie on a Mission

This brings us to the end of the episode where OA and Kristen reveal this information to Maggie. She seems okay (to the naked eye) at first. This is proved wrong when we see her head into the woman’s job, asking to speak with her. The episode ends with Maggie waiting to speak to the woman.

Wow. That’s one way to set up for a finale. Was Maggie’s husband cheating? The show has set up such a loving relationship between the two from her memories and for Maggie’s sake, I hope not. What else could he have been doing? Maybe there was a case he was worried about, so he didn’t tell his wife. Maybe Angela was his contact and the person they were both looking into got him killed. It is hard to say, but with the finale just around the corner hopefully, we get some answers.

The season one finale of FBI airs 9 pm eastern on Tuesday, May 14. Will you be watching?
