Cookie Lyon Reclaims Her Throne on Empire

The leader of the Lyons Empire has patience, intelligence and the willingness to kill those who dare to get in your way

In episode 2 of Empire Cookie Lyon has reclaimed her throne.  She moved back into the home she shares with Lucious, and put Claudia “the therapist” on notice to hurry up and fix her man or there’s going to be a problem. This fashionista is done with the failed therapy that she believes isn’t helping Lucious return to her and their boys.

At the start of this episode we get a little wet. Leah Walker (Lucious’s mother) tries to drown her own son. She believes he is evil and needs to be put down. For a moment this appears to be a flash back until good ole Claudia “the therapist” comes to his rescue.  Does anyone else think Claudia is too comfortable with her patient and needs to create a few boundaries?

The Characters…

It is difficult to watch Lucious struggle to regain his memories from the past. He’s weak and not fit to lead this family. I have my doubts on the true nature of his memory loss. However, I find myself rooting along with other diehard fans for his mind to quickly repair itself.  He needs to get back to family first and ruling the empire by any means necessary.

We need to discuss the Warren (Terrell Carter) and Jamal budding relationship.  It’s like watching a movie car chase. If you don’t stop the car barreling towards the cliff, you’re going to go over it and die. Inevitable heartbreak is coming if the Diana DuBois plan succeeds. Warrens deceptiveness could potentially lead Jamal down the rabbit hole of destruction. Not to mention upset Cookie.

Now that Anika (Grace Byers) is finally free from jail after 5 months, she can see her daughter. She is greeted at the door by Tiana (Empire artist and former girlfriend to Hakeem) holding daughter Bella.  Boy oh boy if looks could kill. I would hate for Tiana (Serayah) to meet the same fate Rhonda Lyons (Kaitlin Doubleday) did.

It’s good to see Teyonah Parris from Survivor Remorse passionately connect with Andre Lyons, well almost connect.  I was pleasantly surprised when this botched one night stand appeared at Empire’s executive offices as Detective Pamela Rose.  Who is conveniently investigating the disappearance of Giuliana Green (Nia Long).  I agree with Andre this is too much of a coincidence.  I’m sure he won’t let this go and will probably investigate Detective Rose himself.

What Will Happen?

The Lyons are struggling to remain relevant in the music industry. Cut throat business dealings and talent have always kept the Lyons feared among their competitors and on top.

After watching this episode, I’m left with three questions:

  1. Will Empire Survive under Cookie’s leadership?
  2. Who is Detective Pamela Rose?
  3. What are Claudia’s true motives with the Lyons?
