SMS Interview: Meet Tracey Phillipps

SMS: Thanks for chatting with me, Tracey – Tell us about your site TalkColony.com

Tracey: Talk Colony is dedicated to fandom for the USA Network series Colony. I knew that with Josh Holloway on board as a lead actor and Carlton Cuse developing the series, it was destined for greatness! (I was a huge fan of Lost! How could you have guessed?)

So, I created a website and podcast to celebrate all things Colony!

The Talk Colony Podcast is a lively forum where my awesome co-host Jay and I discuss the episodes, propose theories, and interview cast members from Colony.

SMS: What else do you do (TV-wise) outside of Talk Colony?

Tracey: I contribute content for several different amazing sites including UndeadWalking.com, FanFest.com, and now SoManyShows.com.

I provide content related to a variety of shows including The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, Ozark, Bosch, Speechless and more!

I also Podcast about The Walking Dead television universe with my super fan friend Tameche. We are TNTtalk (Tracey and Tameche). And believe me when I say that the two of us love to talk!

SMS: Podcasts and reviews – You’re pretty busy when it comes to TV, which is your favorite to do, record a podcast, or write a review?  Why?

Tracey: I especially enjoy podcasting because of the energy it generates. Plus it has aspects of both scripted and improvisational performance. I am a performer at heart!

SMS: What can fans expect from you in your podcasts?

Tracey: Impassioned commentary on storylines and theories packaged in a series of creative segments. You can also expect a lot of laughs as none of us take ourselves too seriously. You can also look forward to great interviews with cast members. We work very hard to ask engaging and thought-provoking questions that will provide fun and informative content for the listeners.

SMS: What’s been your favorite podcast moment?

Tracey: There have been so many great moments! But I will go with interviewing Tory Kittles from Colony.

1) As a happily married woman, I can’t help but crush on Tory a little.

2) He is the epitome of “cool”, like the real deal, he doesn’t have to try, he just is. And that coolness includes his genuine appreciation for his fans and castmates.

3) He is an amazing verbal sparring partner. He is very funny and doesn’t skip a beat! With that said, he takes some fun jabs but makes you feel loved all at the same time – that’s cool!

SMS: If you could go back in time and podcast a TV show from the 80’s – what would it be?

Tracey: Well, it didn’t start in the 80s but went well into that decade – Little House on the Prairie! Our family watched it faithfully. You never knew if it was going to be a tearjerker or comical episode. And you had ongoing storylines to speculate about – will Almanzo finally see Laura as more than a friend?

SMS: When you’re doing stuff for TV, what could we find you doing?

Tracey: Probably drawing, napping, or driving my kids to sports, therapy, and church events.

SMS: What television show could you watch anytime/anyday?  Why?

Tracey: The Walking Dead never gets old!

SMS: If Josh Holloway were to leave you a rating on iTunes, how many hair flips do you think he would give you?

Tracey: Probably 10 simply because he is such a nice guy! Every single one of Josh’s costars that we have interviewed has had nothing but absolutely wonderful things to say about him. Plus, Josh grew up near my home in Georgia, so he would want to support the hometown folk!

SMS: Finally, there’s a lot of people that would like to write about TV or podcast about it… What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Tracey: Start writing, even if it’s just for yourself initially. But create some content that you will be able to share on applications later. You can always start a free blog and put yourself out there. But most importantly, write about things you are passionate about. The same thing goes with podcasting. If you are excited about a show, find a fellow fan and record yourselves talking about your favorite show.
