The Walking Dead Episode 12: Walk With Us

The people of Hilltop stood their ground bravely against the Whisperers, and now the fallout from the attack begins.

The Children

Ezekiel keeps his promise to Daryl and starts getting the kids to safety.

Realizing Judith wasn’t with them, he looks for her.

Where is Judith?

According to Judith, she got lost in the smoke and was killing walkers to protect herself. One wasn’t a walker; it was a live person.

She is frozen in place, afraid of killing her first living person. Thankfully Earl finds her and takes her and the others to a cabin, but Ezekiel is nowhere to be found. I am so glad to see that Judith is affected by killing someone. I was worried she was heading down the same path as Carl.

The Cabin

Inside the cabin, Earl tells all the kids they’re doing very well. You could tell something is wrong, and there is. Going into the back room, Earl sets up a table with a wooden spike in it. He has been bitten and doesn’t want to harm the children.

I really am sad he goes out this way. He survived two huge wars just to die from a walker bite. Judith interrupts him, though, and tells him she will stay with him until the end and take care of it, but he tells her to protect the other kids. She listens, and after she leaves, he drives his head into the stake.

Judith and the Zombie

Judith goes in to see Earl and goes to make sure he is dead. He isn’t. Judith takes care of the walker Earl and slumps against the back wall. I think the poor thing is falling apart. Her mother hasn’t come back, and now she has killed someone and lost another friend.

Daryl, Jerry, and Ezekiel arrive

After finding the original meeting spot, Daryl goes inside a cabin and finds it empty except for a walker. Jerry’s wife is now terribly worried, along with being wounded. Jerry lets her know they will find the kids and heads out with Daryl to find them: They find Ezekiel under a metal plate and head inside the cabin he is near.

Daryl opens the door, and all the kids run out: when RJ ran into Daryl’s arms, it was a beautiful moment.

But those end quickly in this show. Daryl heads inside and finds Judith sitting against the wall with her sword across her lap and a dead Earl. Taking her sword, he sits next to her, says,” come here,” and pulls her close. Neither said a word, but you could feel the emotion running strong between them. Daryl is becoming a great dad to those two.

The lost ones: Mary, Alden, Kelly and Baby Adam

Looking for shelter, Alden has issues getting Adam to stop crying. When Mary offers to help, he refuses at first.

But with a little push from Kelly, he allows Mary to hold her nephew finally, and he quiets down right away. Alden asks Mary what her sister’s name was, and she tells them it was Francis. She also says that if she could do it all over again, it would be Francis holding Adam, not her.

Kelly, whose sister is missing, asks if Adam was the world to her, and she nods. Then she asks if her sister was her world to her, and she nods again. Kelly feels Mary’s pain and is trying to reach out to her.

A Sacrifice

When walkers surround them, they find a van to hide in, but Mary doesn’t get in. Instead she lures them away from the car on her own, much to the argument of the other two. She won’t let anyone else die as Francis did.

After she destroys the walkers and is visually proud of herself, Beta drives a knife into her gut. Telling her she will walk with them, he waits for her to change. And as she does, an arrow goes into her head, killing her.

Alden shot the arrow. He wasn’t going to let her suffer that horrible fate. I really wish they hadn’t killed Mary off. Not only is Thora Birch, an awesome actress, but Mary was also a strong character. Now Beta is on my to die list twice. Once for Laura, and now for Mary.

Unmasked

Though Beta did suffer a setback. Mary had torn off half his skin mask, revealing his face before she died. Go, Mary. When another whisperer wandered in, he said he recognized him, and for that, Beta kills him. He also was forced to run from Alden so he wouldn’t see his face, plus Alden could’ve killed him easily with his bow. I bet that Beta is someone famous and that’s why both Alpha and that Whisperer knew who he was

One Alive, One Missing

Magna is back and alive. She and Connie mixed into the herd, but Connie got lost.

I really hope that she is alive. Yumiko also sucker punches Carol for not caring about Magna’s well being. I don’t think that was necessary, but I understand it. We also see Eugene, who is worried he won’t see Stephanie, but Carol, who is feeling ostracized like Eugene, was for a long while tells him to go to her. I really hope things work out for the big guy, and I hope Carol can find some peace.

Negan and Alpha

Now Negan is being Negan and walking around bashing in the skulls of walkers much to the dislike of Alpha. She sends him to collect walkers, which he didn’t care much for. Alpha also lets him know she didn’t find what she wanted, and that’s Lydia.

An Awkward Reunion

After Negan sees Lydia running off, he heads over to catch her. But, he runs into an old friend, Aaron. Aaron isn’t too happy to see him. Negan tries to explain things, but Aaron won’t have it, especially since he is dragging a seriously injured Luke. When walkers start heading toward Luke, Aaron gives up on Negan, and Negan goes after Lydia, obviously hurt by the look of betrayal Aaron gave him.

Poor Lydia

Hurt and scared, Lydia is all but not too happy to see Negan. Taking off his mask, he grabs her.

Now here’s where things get interesting. Negan tells Alpha he has what she wants and leads her to a cabin. At the same time, we see Lydia tied to a chair in a cabin. Now here’s where we can see that Negan is more human than he believes. And even though he says he feels nothing, you know he does. Between caring for Judith and the hurt from Aaron thinking he betrayed him, Negan does feel he just doesn’t want to admit it.

Negan tells Alpha about Lucille, who died from pancreatic cancer. He told her after she got sick, she got more beautiful even after losing her hair. He was sweet-talking Alpha while at the same time releasing some pain.

This is where I believe Alpha really dug her own grave. She tells Negan that Lucille dying was the best thing that happened to her. She also tells him that Lucille wanted to take him with her but was too weak to do so. Negan is visually pissed, and when she refused not to kill her daughter, it tipped the boat.

Leading her to the cabin, we see the knob is the same color as the one in Lydia’s cabin.

A Prize

But, Lydia opens the door, and they aren’t there. Alpha opens the door, and it’s empty. She turns around, and Negan slashes her throat open like Rick had his. Kissing her one more time quickly, he took a prize: her head. And the mystery of who let Negan out of his cell is revealed.

Negan rolls the head over to someone’s feet, and the camera pans up. It is none other than Carol herself.

She says,” Took you long enough,” and he smiles back at her. Are they hinting at a Carol and Negan relationship? I think it would be interesting.

Final thoughts

This was another good episode. It doesn’t top last weeks, but it was good. I loved the scenes with Daryl, RJ, and Judith.

I also love Daryl with a morning star mace. The next episode will mark Danai Gurira’s last episode. I really hope they don’t kill her so she can come back or go to the movies and reconnect with Rick.
