The Unicorn Episode 4
At a backyard gathering, Forrest casually asks Wade how his date with Lori was last night. Only, Wade never mentioned her name to his friends. Forrest slipped up. Wade’s friends figured, since they helped him create his online account, they can spy and check out who he has set up dates with.
Wade checks his account and notices that they changed his profile picture and the answers to some of his questions. They were only trying to help, but Wade doesn’t think he needs the help. He changes his profile back and also changes his password. Now his friends are locked out.
Natalie and Grace notice that a television show they used to watch with their mom is coming back on air. Wade suggests watching with Delia, but the girls refuse. Then he suggests Michelle, and the girls agree. When they start the show with Michelle, they are constantly getting interrupted because she is yelling at her kids and she just couldn’t keep up with all the characters. This wasn’t a good idea either.
When Forrest goes to check on Wade’s dating account, he realizes he’s been locked out. No access means no way of knowing who he is dating. What if Wade meets someone that they don’t like? He will bring her to all the gatherings, all the soccer games…Forrest doesn’t want to take that chance. He creates a profile for a fake woman named Zoya and checks out Wade’s profile. They notice that Wade has changed his picture back and changed all the answers back as well.
Forrest takes this one step further and ‘likes’ Wade’s profile. Wade ‘likes’ her back and he starts a chat with ‘her’, well really Forrest. The group of friends suggest Forrest stops chatting with Wade as Zoya, but Forrest is really enjoying their conversations. In a scene with his daughters, Wade lets on that he knows it’s Forrest. He continues to chat, and suggests meeting. Forrest says no and deletes Zoya’s account.
Moving on…
The following day at soccer, Wade is visibly upset. The group asks what’s wrong and he tells them that he’s been ghosted by this woman he was really interested in. Forrest comes clean and admits that it was him, and Wade comes clean and admits that he knew. Forrest is upset that Wade kept the charade up. Wait…Forrest was spying on Wade, but Wade is the bad guy here?
Forest admits that he enjoyed the conversations he was having and that someone was actually listening to him. Wade suggests having these conversations face to face.
The show closes with the girls snuggled in Wade’s bedroom watching the TV show, just like they used to do with their mom. Wade is surprisingly keeping up with the characters. The girls notice he is checking the plot on his phone. This demonstrates how much he is trying because even though he hates the show, he loves his girls and moments like this with them.
Thoughts
This was a fun episode where we got to see Wade’s friends over step their boundaries with some great comedy. There is that possibility that sometimes your friend’s new date just doesn’t click with your group. But in the end, you have to trust your friend’s choices.
I enjoyed the end of this episode. This was one of the first episodes where Wade isn’t struggling to figure out what he needs to do or how to discipline the girls. He knew what he needed to do. The small sacrifice of watching a TV show that he hates, will make a lasting memory for his girls.
