3 Big Questions…

That lead to more questions.

What does Vellek plan on doing with his Nostos research?

Turns out Vellek has multiple lines of research going on. We already knew about his research into the red rust. All season we’d heard Giorgio refer to the pit fighting as “Science”. Since that guy looks like he knows as much about science as does about healthy relationships, we the viewers stuck it in the back of our minds. This week, we found the missing link. The pit fighting determined which men of the available pool possessed the most aggression. Vellek sees aggression as mankind’s main problem, so by using the Nostos, he plans to wipe out aggression in all people. Basically, if it worked on Ares, it would work on anybody. The feast scene when Lucia gives the Greek admiral the poisoned pita gives me the idea that Vellek has some wild plans coming up. I’ve already theorized that Vellek plans on setting himself up as king of the world once he controls the food supply. Easy one.

Now, I think he’s hedging his bets. Ordinarily, people dislike existing at the whim of another and will fight to gain a sense of their autonomy. Vellek can’t fend off the entire world all at once, so I think he plans on literally taking the fight out of us. Chandler thinks it’ll happen through the Nostos drug, but I think, as proven with the pita, Vellek will lace his post-red rust food with it. No one will have the will to fight him at that point.

Will Giorgio betray his father?

During Vulture Team’s siege of Giorgio’s house. Giorgio said a few things leading me to believe he could eventually flip on his father. The relationship between children and parents usually carries an unbreakable bond, but that my not be true between Dr. Vellek and his “lesser” son. Every chance Vellek gets, he insults and demeans Giorgio in front of anybody available to watch the show. Maybe I’m reading into it, but for a while it seemed like Giorgio considered the prospect of becoming a prisoner aboard the James as something he could live with. He could deal with being a bargaining chip. Now, at the last second he ditched the gang and got partially blown up for his trouble, but again good old dad was there to reaffirm his worthlessness. Could we be looking at a Fletcher – Giorgio team-up at some point when they both decide they’ve had enough of Vellek?

Are Tom and Sasha going to be a thing now?

For real you guys. Captain Chandler must be a man with certain unquenchable needs, if you get my drift. He starts the season with Cali, a Greek waitress and a girl much younger than he. Although never explicitly shown, he leaves his kids under Cali’s care (usually NOT a post-break-up move). A couple days later he seduced Lucia, all in the line of duty, of course. Now, back on the Nathan James, he seems bent on not only winning Sasha over, but winning her back. Are we really supposed to read his heart-felt speech and reach across the table to Sasha’s hand any other way? At the very least, after this episode I bet Sasha changed her status to “It’s complicated”. This spells worse news for Fletch, should he ever cross Sasha’s path again.
