3 Big Questions…

That lead to more questions.

Now that Tom’s sworn to protect and defend the constitution, what’s his job?

Captain Chandler rejoined the Navy. Now the ship has 1 CO on medical time-off, 1 acting CO, and one former CO wandering around the ship, all with the rank of Captain. That’s a lot of captains. Meylan and Slattery have actual roles on the James, but they naturally want defer to Chandler because…. he saved the world. They will have a lot of action coming up and Chandler proved very effective on Sardinia. Perhaps he’ll lead away missions? I maintain my theory that Slattery will continue to suffer from the stabbing and nostos, making him unfit for command. I also believe that even though Meylan is a good guy, he will go down, creating a vacuum in the captain’s chair.

Will Mike overcome the effects of the Nostos?

I think Mike has a real problem on his hands. He knows everything he saw was just in his head. He also misses his family and has no closure about what happened to them. Eventually I think the existence of Doc’s Nostos weeds will come to light and Mike will face a huge crisis. Does he succumb and see his family again OR does he through that junk overboard? I’m afraid he won’t be able to resist – at first. I believe Mike WILL overcome this. I just don’t think it will be fast or easy.

Will Fletcher complete his mission to steal the seeds?

We’ve seen turncoats on this show before and I believe Fletcher will execute his mission. It will have flashes of will-he-won’t-he and tension, but at the end of the day, Harry (the fake ship’s captain) will leave with the seeds. I also believe Fletcher will have remorse and reveal what he’s done. Look for Fletcher to get his face re-arranged in the near future.

Was this episode any good?

If you want relentless action from this show, I bet you probably didn’t like this episode. Personally, I watch for the action, but I need moments like this episode to let the characters show me some growth. You can’t grow in the middle of constant action. While I won’t say this was an “awesome” episode, I will commit to the idea of this being a “necessary” episode.
