‘The Good Doctor’ Season 3 Episode Preview – ‘Fractured’

The Good Doctor

THE GOOD DOCTOR - “Fractured" - (ABC/Jack Rowand) JASIKA NICOLE, FREDDIE HIGHMORE

After a heartbreaking and highly-emotional winter finale, The Good Doctor is set to return with all-new episodes starting on Monday, January 13th.

In the winter finale, Dr. Shaun Murphy squared off with the ghosts of his past. Along with the support of Dr. Aaron Glassman and his bestie Lea, Shaun finally confronted his estranged mother as well as his abusive father, who lay on his deathbed.

At first, Shaun grappled with the idea of seeing his parents again, and their first meeting did not go well. While Shaun’s father tried to make amends and offer his apologies, Shaun exploded with rage over the horrible things he experienced in his past at the hands of his father. With the encouragement of Dr. Glassman and Lea, and after a heartwarming talk with his mother, Shaun found the courage to confront his father once more. What first seemed like a promising reunion between father and son, and most importantly, a moment of closure for Shaun soon took a turn for the worse. The abusiveness of Shaun’s father reared its ugly head. The disturbing encounter sent an already reluctant Shaun into a total emotional meltdown.

In the final moments of the episode, Shaun was left sitting alone in his hotel room and in a completely panicked state. As the intensity of his meltdown increased, Lea entered the room to comfort him. Thanks to an embrace and cuddles from Lea, he quickly began to calm down and quietly sobbed in her arms. The end of the winter finale offered a jarring comparison to the episode just prior in which Shaun and his girlfriend Carly were attempting to take their relationship to a new, physical level. Ultimately, Shaun just couldn’t get comfortable with the idea of intimacy with Carly, and yet, with Lea, things were completely different.

Monday’s mid-season premiere episode titled Fractured will pick right back up where we left off in December and will explore Shaun’s feelings for Lea versus his relationship with Carly.

Below is the official synopsis from ABC for the upcoming episode as well as the promotional trailer. Check it out:

“Following his father’s death, Shaun must deal with the effects his intimacy with Lea will have on his relationship with Carly. Meanwhile, the team operates on a patient who is refusing all anesthesia during surgery for fear of relapsing.”
