The Good Doctor Season 2 Winter Finale!

The Good Doctor Season 2 Winter Finale left us all gasping for air—just maybe not the same air they were breathing.

I had a hard time getting this all out. There were so many threads and so many cliffhangers—where to begin? Let’s start with Melendez and Lim—the episode begins with them in bed!!! Woohoo! You go, guys! Unfortunately, that’s about as fun as the finale got.

Quarantine

When two patients arrive in ER with the same symptoms and the same rash, both of them from the same airport and the same flight, the team fears that an airborne virus threatens them all. ER is quickly shut down and officially in quarantine, leaving Shaun, Lim, and Reznick to try and navigate the chaos that ensues. To make matters even worse, Shaun is really irritated by all the Christmas decorations, and a light fixture that is buzzing.

The two patients die quickly, and Tyler, an EMT who is hot on Reznick, soon develops the rash. But the most frightening moment is when Lim comes down with the rash, too.  She shuts herself into the negative pressure room with Tyler, where he soon dies.

While all this is going on, we still have patients who need to be cared for. Santa, AKA Pete, is not feeling very jolly. He has a bowel obstruction and they need to operate. They set up a makeshift operating room outside of Lim’s room, where she directs Reznick and Shaun through the surgery. Only Shaun has to go help in the ER, and Lim passes out, and now Reznick is left to do the surgery.

Melendez, Park, and Claire are not in the ER, so they’re not in quarantine, but they’re all affected by it. Park’s son who is visiting ended up in ER when the quarantine shut it down, so he’s stuck there, and he has asthma.

And Melendez’s patient has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, but there’s one problem—his father (who’s not really been a father to him before) is the donor and he is stuck in the ER, under quarantine. They find another donor, but it might not be a good enough match, and the patient says no. He requests a DNR instead. But when he dies, Melendez goes against that DNR and brings him back.

Elsewhere

Since Shaun is stuck at the hospital, Lea drives Glassy to his appointment. When he’s done, he asks the nurse to give him his results so he can deliver them to Dr. Blaize. He promises he won’t look, but we all know he’s gonna. Outside, sure enough, he opens it up and looks—then says the words nobody wanted to hear: It’s back. Oh no. Poor Dr. Glassman.

The episode ends with all these threads coming together, resulting in a huge mix of cliffhangers—Lim passed out on the floor, Santa’s surgery stalled, Park’s son in the ER having an asthma attack, Shaun falling to the floor and having a meltdown as the sounds and lights and chaos are all too much for him, Glassman realizing his cancer is back, and Melendez’s patient being zapped back to life.

Oh, man, did I have trouble sleeping last night! What about you? Your thoughts on the Finale? Will Lim make it? Is Shaun going to be able to pull himself together? Did Melendez make the right call? And Glassman, what’s gonna happen with him? Please share in the comments.

The Good Doctor returns January 14th, 10/9 C, on ABC. Till then, take care Residents!
