The Good Doctor S2 E6
Sometimes you listen to your head, sometimes your heart, and sometimes you still get it wrong—Reznick and Park learning lessons on Season 2 Episode 6 of The Good Doctor.
One-Ply or Two-Ply?
Shaun and Lea have moved in together, but they’re still not getting along. It’s hard enough to live with someone, let alone when that someone is Shaun. He wants things done his way. He wants two-ply toilet paper, over the spool, not under. He wants the remote control in its spot and the glasses in theirs. And he’s driving Lea crazy. My question is, how come this stuff didn’t come up when she was living in his apartment? I mean, did he not care about those things there? Or was he just gone so much, trying to avoid Lea, that he didn’t notice? Maybe I missed something. After a huge outburst from Lea, she goes to Dr. Glassman, Glassy, as Lea calls him, and he reminds Lea of the reasons that she likes Shaun. He also tells her that Shaun wouldn’t expect her to change (but he kind of did, Glassy), and she shouldn’t expect him to change, either.
Speaking of Dr. Glassman, he’s still having troubles of his own. He’s not getting along with his home nurse, for starters. And then Debbie comes over for a night of lasagna and movie talk. When things heat up between then, they share a kiss, and are right on the verge of being intimate when Glassman stumbles and almost falls. I guess he’s embarrassed, too much pride, and he sends Debbie away.
Going With Your Gut …
Lim, Park, and Claire’s patient is a teenaged girl named Riley who shows up with a nosebleed that won’t stop. Her parents are divorced and for a very long time Riley has been having all kinds of physical ailments. The only problem is that doctors can never find any reason for her symptoms, so the parents have chalked it up to her just being upset over their divorce. They stop the nosebleed and send Riley home, but she returns later with a fever and breathing problems. She’s spitting up blood and her chest hurts. A scan of her lungs reveals a shadow and Claire wants to explore and see what it is, she fears its a tumor. Park, however, says the girl just wants attention. The parents at first are hesitant about the surgery, they’re still convinced she’s not really sick, but Park helps Claire convince them by telling them to believe in their daughter. So the surgery is on, and things get pretty hairy. It looks like it was a really bad call on Claire’s part, but then Lim spots something. There is a piece of a lego in Riley’s lungs. Turns out that she used to chew on legos when she was worried about her mom and dad, and she must have inhaled a piece of one. It had been lodged in there all that time and was causing all her issues. Her parents apologize for not believing her, and for their divorce. Riley tells them she was never upset about the divorce, just that they argued so much.
Going With Your Head ….
Melendez, Shaun, and Renick’s patient is a young violinist named Jas. She had a manicure and now she’s got an infection in her finger. She also complains of pain in her knuckle, and sometimes even in her neck. Shaun suspects flesh eating bacteria, and wants to take a portion of her finger and test for it, but Renzick scolds him and shuts him down because it would mean the end of the girl’s musical career. Later, the pain has spread, and she develops a fever. The team investigates and finds she does indeed have flesh eating bacteria. Because they waited so long, they now have to amputate her arm. Jas has to recover in an oxygen chamber, and someone has to be with her, so Reznick goes in. When Jas wakes, Reznick has to break the news to her about her arm. Jas is devastated, of course, and tells Reznick it’s all her fault, that Shaun tired to tell her but she wouldn’t listen. Reznick is reduced to tears and I have to say, as much as she gets on my nerves sometimes, I really felt bad for her.
The episode ends with Shaun and Lea having come to a mutual agreement that they will both try to do better. Shaun agrees, he likes this idea very much, and then he goes into the bathroom and finds that there are now two toilet paper spools—one for over, and one for under. And Shaun likes this idea very much.
