The Gifted closes out its premiere season on Fox on January 15 with a 2 hour season finale. At is root, The Gifted is a story about family and opening your heart and mind to those who may seem different. Fascinating powers, heroics, and ongoing mystery boost the intrigue.
Viewers still have time to catch up on the series ahead of its super sized season finale on January 15. Here are some things you can expect from the series.
Good versus Evil
The Gifted uniquely pits the good guys and gals against the bad.
First of all, it blurs the lines. Characters who may initially seem like the antagonists have some backstories of their own, which complicate their outlook.
There is also an element of not knowing who to trust. Some characters are misunderstood or outright manipulated beyond their control.
Ethical questions are raised when one mutant uses their powers on another without their knowledge with the intention of saving another mutant.
Family
The Gifted follows the Strucker family, a seemingly typical family from Atlanta, until they discover that the kids are actually mutants. This discovery sends the Struckers on the run where they find refuge with the mutant underground.
As the Struckers face dire circumstances, they get to know one another on a different level than they did in suburbia. Conversations never held before come to light more readily under the threat of capture.
The family members (dad Reed, mom Caitlin, daughter Lauren, and son Andy) surprise one another with their abilities, both mutant and non-mutant, as they work together as a family to survive.
Interestingly, the mutant underground functions much like a family themselves, supporting and protecting one another. Many mutants find themselves alone, abandoned and rejected by society and sometimes even their biological families. The underground takes them in and offers them a place to call home.
As the assault against the mutant population heats up, the underground facility in Atlanta finds itself taking in more refugees than it can really handle. But they work together and make sacrifices to help others.
Heroics
Some of the first mutants we are introduced to are Thunderbird, Polaris, Blink, and Eclipse. We seem them use tools like super human tracking and portal making to dodge Sentinel Services, the federal organization bent on taking the mutant population into custody.
As the underground takes in more and more refugees, new powers are continually being introduced. This keeps the fight compelling.
Indeed, the mutants have some absolutely cool powers. But this does not make them completely immune to capture. Mutants continue to put themselves on the line for each other, sometimes being injured or even captured. Their bravery is inspiring.
But the non-mutants can be just as inspiring. Caitlin Strucker uses her skills as nurse to tend to the injured, often bravely attempting procedures beyond her actual experience or training. Reed Strucker uses his background as a prosecutor to provide unique intelligence to the underground movement.
The premiere episode of The Gifted re-airs on Monday, November 27 on Fox and returns with an all new episode on Monday, December 4, both at 9 p.m. eastern. Make note that the season finale will begin one hour earlier at 8 p.m. eastern on January 15.
