Sweet Magnolias: Season 2 Trailer raises new questions

The season 2 trailer for Sweet Magnolias raises some interesting new questions for viewers.

Fans of the popular Netflix series waited with bated breath for the Sweet Magnolias season 2 trailer to drop. As promised, Netflix released the full trailer for Sweet Magnolias season 2 on Friday, January 21st. And almost immediately, viewers began speculating about plot points, new and old.

Netflix will release all 10 episodes at once on February 4th. Viewers can expect hour long episodes chock-full of our favorite trio of friends. We get glimpses of Helen, Dana Sue and Maddie as they interact with family, fellow residents of Serenity and potential love interests.

What did we learn?

One, if not the biggest, of questions held over from season 1 is the identity of the passenger in the car that Kyle crashed. The trailer footage confirms that Kyle survives the crash, but we still do not know who was with him or that person’s fate. We also see brother Tyler and friend (and unrequited crush) Annie in multiple clips. Tyler and CeCe kiss in one scene. We see Jackson in a scene with Annie and she’s kind of smiling. What does this all mean in regard to Annie and Tyler’s possible feelings for one another. Are they just friends?

Another unresolved mystery from season 1 involves Isaac’s search for his biological parents. We last saw him asking Dana Sue if she was his mom, but we did not hear her answer. The trailer shows Isaac continuing his search, so does that rule out Dana Sue as his birth mother? It sounds like this storyline has more to come.

As season 1 came to a close, Bill asked Maddie to take him back as her husband. Fans became a little nervous when Bill’s plea coincided with a riff between Maddie and baseball coach Cal. We see some hope for Maddie and Cal when Dana Sue mentions the “cutest couple” in the trailer. Plus, we see Maddie fussing at Bill. These trailer bits give me hope that Maddie and Cal could be endgame. Seeing this stunning pair dance at a fancy event also keeps my hopes up.

New questions

While checking in on some questions from last season, we also see some clips that raise new questions.

There is a steamy closeup of Helen and Erik in a near kiss. Have these two gone from the friend zone to something more? On the other hand, Helen also speaks about a difficult time and looks like she has been crying. What is making her sad?

We see a baby whom we believe to be Noreen and Bill’s child. Bill holds the baby in one scene, but we see Isaac holding the baby in another. What does that mean? There is also a scene of Cal throwing his bag in the back of his truck. He’s not just tossing it, though. He looks angry. What has him so upset?

Then we have Ronnie seeming as though he is town longer than a quick weekend. We learned last season that he and Dana Sue are not actually divorced. Does his presence indicate a reconciliation? We do see him putting his arms around his wife. But what about farmer Jeremy? We see Dana Sue kissing Jeremy more than once! Some dialogue suggests that the two men are both vying for Dana Sue’s attention. This looks tricky!

I am also asking if we learn more about Trotter this season. I would love to see even more from his character, one of my personal favorites!

Tune in February 4th!

It seems likely that we will get some answers from last season, but maybe not full resolution. Then we have new questions nagging at us and new theories to consider.
