Get the latest news for Sweet Magnolias with SERENITY SCOOP Volume S3E7 ‘Somebody I’m Longing to See’.

Helen and CeCe spend the Labor Day weekend away from home. Helen flies to Tampa to spend time with her mom and brother Zeke’s family. CeCe flies (for the very first time ever) to see her mom in Louisville. Helen gives nervous CeCe a pep talk and a special gift before taking a cab to the airport. CeCe is very touched to receive a necklace that matches the earrings Helen gave CeCe at mock trial in season 1.

Annie gets her driver’s license! She is thrilled that her parents will allow her to drive as far as Castlewood. She tells them she wants to go shopping at the TJ Maxx in Castlewood, which she does . . . with Jackson. Annie kisses Jackson goodbye. All seems well until Annie backs into another vehicle. Her parents arrive and are relieved that she is okay. What is not okay is Dana Sue spying Jackson hiding behind a tree. Dana Sue is livid when she learns that Annie has been lying to her since July. She is also not happy that Jackson was more worried about his mom finding out about him dating Annie than he was about consoling Annie.

Annie is now grounded, no phone, no driving, no socializing. Maddie receives the news about Helen’s breakup from Paula. She shares the breakup with Dana Sue, but they are still at odds and have no idea how to make things better.

Jeremy unknowingly spills the beans to Isaac about Erik consulting at Z’s.

Town Council Notes

Katy is supposed to meet her friend at one of the local playgrounds. Maddie and the boys are there with her, but her friend does not show up. Meanwhile, Ty steps into a big mud puddle and the seesaw is broken, which disappoints Katy.

Kyle suggests that they tell acting mayor Vernon Hall about the need to refurbish the playground. He then takes it a step further and proposes that he and Ty and their friends work on the project.

Small Town Life

Genevieve and Noreen now work together at the spa. They talk about the trials and tribulations of dating. When Genevieve says all guys are not bad, Noreen asks Genevieve if she is seeing someone. Genevieve responds coyly suggesting that there might be a man in her life. Wait, is she talking about Erik?

Genevieve acts protectively when Bill arrives at the spa surprised to see Noreen. Genevieve thinks Noreen is uncomfortable, so she asks her to help with her workspace while she helps Bill. Bill purchases a spa gift certificate for “someone special”.

Noreen approaches Jeremy’s booth at the outdoor market. She asks him about goat’s milk because she has been having some tummy trouble. Genevieve suggested that cow’s milk may be her issue. Jeremy grabs some goat’s milk for Noreen and says Genevieve might be right. He also offers a special drink recipe for her.

Ty introduces himself to a fellow statistics student named Olivia who is doing schoolwork at the coffee shop. She seems to mistake his approach for flirting but when Ty asks for help with their Statistics homework, Olivia agrees.

It’s all “relative”

Bill receives a cold welcome at Isaac’s house when he comes to see Noreen and to give Bex a gift. Bill tries to assure Noreen that he wants to be a bigger part of Rebecca’s life. Noreen is not interested in Bill being around more. She says Bex can decide for herself when she grows up.

Noreen goes back inside. Bill tries to persuade Isaac that he wants to be a better, more involved day. Isaac scoffs at Bill’s parenting track record.

Another day, Isaac calls a meeting with Bill at his office. Isaac warns Bill to not come back to Noreen’s house and the leaves                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Helen has an eventful visit at her brother’s home where her mom lives as well. While more than happy to comfort Helen, her mom, Bev asks why Helen is seeking consolation there instead of back home with her friends. Bev is glad Ryan is gone as he has hurt Helen too many times.

Helen jokes with her brother and he playfully tells her that she is “wrong”. The word stings Helen as she is reminded how she felt that Maddie was saying Helen was wrong about Ryan. Helen begins to cry, which startles Zeke. Bev reminds Helen that she was always prideful about being correct as a young child. She talks about how she and Helen’s dad resorted to using “reverse psychology” on Helen.

Helen demonstrates kindness when she learns of a falling out between Zeke and their Auntie Rachel over Rachel’s cat (who just happened to urinate on Zeke’s slippers!) Helen uses her attorney approach and advises Rachel on estate planning for her cat. But the cat “Purry Sledge” would require a guardian and Helen suggests Zeke. Rachel perks up at the thought of Zeke wanting to help care for Purry (whether it is actually true, ha!). Rachel takes Zeke back under her wing as her favorite nephew. Success!

Bev points out to Helen how diplomatic and kind she was with Rachel and hints that she can also be this way with her best friends back at home. Helen looks encouraged.

Margarita Chatter

Margarita Night is on hold as Helen is out of town and the three best friends cannot seem to work things out.

Maddie tries to make some headway with Dana Sue. She takes her the foundation papers to sign. Maddie wants to make things better, but Dana Sue knows Helen is not receptive right now. Furthermore, Dana Sue is still frustrated with Maddie for meddling into Helen’s business. Maddie does not see it as meddling. She claims she is fighting for her loved ones. Dana Sue retorts that Maddie is fighting with her loved ones.

Margarita Night does get a shoutout on the basketball court. Isaac confronts Erik about working at Z’s with Kathy and questions his choices. Erik tells Isaac not to worry about him and Isaac leaves. Cal arrives and asks Erik about Isaac storming off. Erik relays Isaac’s concern and is not sure how they can fix things. Cal facetiously suggests Margarita Night but quickly points out that it is not working for the ladies. He tells Erik that Magnolias are not getting along, and that Helen and Ryan broke up. The news catches Erik off guard.

Counseling Corner

Cal counsels Maddie in her quest to help other people. He reminds her that help is not always welcomed. Cal points out that you cannot truly help someone if they do not want your help.

One day after church Paula talks to Dana Sue about God’s grace in difficult times. She engineers time for Maddie and Dana Sue to work side by side at church passing out cookies and lemonade and wishes “grace for all”.

It is awkward between Maddie and Dana Sue at first because Maddie holds back to not assume she knows what she needs to do. Maddie allows Dana Sue to lead the way, and they share a tiny but noticeable smile.

Later, Katy wants to pen a letter to Kyle to apologize after arguing with Kyle. Maddie decides she will write a couple of letters as well, one for Helen and one for Dana Sue.

Romance Review

Kyle is happy to receive another flower on his doorstep. He adds it to his collection of pressed flowers in a book. His delight turns to anger, however, when he learns that Annie and Jackson have been sneaking around and overtly defying Mary Vaughn. He’s jealous that Annie and Jackson have been seeing each other while he has been playing by the rules and missing Nellie.

As he angrily walks away from Annie at church, he bumps into Lily. She feels bad for Kyle and wants to be of help. Kyle asks if she could give him a ride somewhere. Lily agrees and drives Kyle to Nellie’s house in Castlewood. Kyle places a single flower in the basket on Nellie’s bike and then slips away back to Lily’s car.

Genevieve and Erik continue to spend time together. Before leaving to meet up with Genevieve’s friends, Erik leaves a note and tells the bartender he has enjoyed working with him. It sounds like Erik is done with Kathy and done with Z’s.

We may have detected a spark between Jeremy and Noreen. He went above and beyond to help her with her milk questions.

Mystery Musings

Genevieve and Erik sit at the bar at Z’s. It is time for them to meet Genevieve’s friends. Erik pauses to say what sounds like a permanent goodbye to the bartender and asks him to give a note to Kathy. Is Erik ending his business relationship with Kathy?

Dana Sue arrives to the restaurant and picks up the note Maddie has left for her. Then she notices the kitchen. It was vandalized and someone signed their name “Trish”. Who is Trish and why did she vandalize Sullivan’s kitchen? Could the damage have come from Kathy in response to Erik quitting?

How will Nellie respond to the flower in her bike basket? Finally, will Maddie’s letters help heal the wounds between the Sweet Magnolias?

As always, so many questions in Sweet Magnolias!
