Save These Shows: Polling Winners!

Wow! We learned very quickly which shows you all wanted to see saved in the sci-fi genre! Your voices were loud and clear – and we’re happy to finally announce the winners!

We asked TV fans which of the following shows should be saved – either by their own networks or picked up by a new network:  Class, The Crossing, Shadowhunters, Dark Matter, Colony, Ghosted, Timeless, and Sense8.

The Numbers

Fans had an opportunity to vote over the course of 4 days earlier in the week and they came out in full force. Over 300,000 votes were cast over 90% of all votes went to our top 3 shows. These fandoms are absolutely dedicated to their cause – and towards the end of voting – one of them got some good news.

We took the last two and a half days to go through the voting logs to ensure all the legitimate votes were counted and any votes by software or bots were removed. There were some adjustments made, but the following results are our final count. (Psst… We do monitor that – Play fair!)

Two Quick Surprises

Going into the voting, we made some early assumptions or predictions on how things may end… And we were surprised by 2 things:

The Dark Matter fandom didn’t show up quite as much as we expected. With only 4,380 votes they still came in 5th place overall – but expected to see higher numbers. Their push for renewal was all over social media for months! While we’ve heard all options were exhausted in trying to save the show, we thought this still might fall in our top three.

A show that didn’t seem to have a strong fandom presence on social media, but still found over 5,200 votes was The Crossing. Admittedly, we didn’t think this show would find itself in the top 5 of overall voting, but somehow fans showed up and earned it a 4th place finish. Perhaps this show needs a bigger push from fans – because they’re obviously out there wanting more!

Enough already… Let’s get to our top 3 in voting!

3rd Place

It should come as no surprise to anyone, that Timeless earned a top 3 spot. Timeless fans have always been driven and dedicated to demanding more of their show. After recount, Timeless took third place with 41,758 votes!

Some good news arrived for fans of the show towards the end of our polling! Timeless was granted a final wish – They’re getting a 2 part series finale broadcast by NBC. While it may not be a complete season, it at least allows fans to get some closure for their show and favorite characters. Congrats Clockblockers!

Also, that Heli-CLOCK-ter idea was phenomenal. Whoever was behind that… Bravo!

The fight for first and second place was intense – and a lot of fun to watch from the sidelines. Fans pushed hard and our top two shows received so many votes – how could they not get saved? Come on networks – Give the fans what they want!

We actually owe our 2nd place show’s fandom an apology. While we were busy removing votes that weren’t legitimate for some of the other shows in the poll, we found a little over 11,000 votes that sat in limbo for this show that for some reason weren’t added to their total. While we don’t own or didn’t create the software used for polling, we’ll take responsibility for this – and have added them to the total.

2nd Place

SHADOWHUNTERS (Freeform/John Medland) Pictured: Emeraude Toubia, Katherine McNamara, Isaiah Mustafa

The Shadowhunters fandom is absolutely no joke. There are so many of them – it’s hard to fathom why this series hasn’t been saved yet. The #Saveshadowhunters movement is alive and well – and seems to be pretty well organized. A show that fits squarely in the fantasy and supernatural space, it still has some of those sci-fi elements that allow it to be in this poll.

With an impressive vote total of 102,797 – Shadowhunters grabs our 2nd place spot. The shows is certainly loved by fans and they’re working hard since learning of their cancellation two months ago to earn another season.

Hey network execs… Do you know how hard it is to get 100,000 of anything? 100,000+ votes is extremely impressive and shows the fandom’s dedication. And how about that petition? Over 150,000 signatures! Add yours here.

These fans are determined and they’re not going to give up. Save this show!

1st Place

COLONY — Pictured: (l-r) Tory Kittles as Broussard, Peter Jacobson as Proxy Alan Snyder, Josh Holloway as Will Bowman — (Photo by: Jack Zeman/USA Network)

Our first place voters came out in droves and never stopped. With organized voting campaigns within their fandom, they earned 155,535 total votes for their show: Colony

Perhaps it’s because they were the show most recently cancelled, or maybe they just have an undying love for the show and it’s characters – Whatever it is… They took the top spot with an incredible amount of votes. Colony fans have always been loud and could always be seen taking over twitter live-tweeting episodes.

Fans created their own website with internal petition and another on change.org that are gathering signatures. Additional plans for their Save Colony campaign are under way – and after seeing the votes roll in, we believe this show needs another shot! Donate to their campaign via their GoFundMe.

Can the various cable networks, Netflix or another streaming service really ignore over 150,000 votes? If they do, they might just be making a huge mistake. The Colony fandom won’t accept no for an answer… Save this show!

Thank You!

We don’t just broadcast, podcast, or write about TV – We’re fans too. We understand all too well the pain of cancellation. We hope for the best for all of the shows in our poll, especially our top two. These fans deserve more of their shows – and frankly – we are rooting for them to get it. We’ll send these results to the press and public relations contacts for the various networks out there – and while it may not push them over the edge – we hope they’ll see that these shows should get another opportunity to continue growing.

Thank you to all the fans that shared and voted in this crazy process. Thanks to everyone that continues to follow us here at So Many Shows. We appreciate you! Until next time…
