Roo’s Recommendations: Three New Shows I’m Excited About!

New TV Shows for 2019!

It’s a brand new year and there’s lots to look forward to on TV in 2019! Bunches of shows are coming back this year, but I wanted to point out a few shiny new TV shows for 2019 that I’m especially excited about, and why I want to watch them. Here we go:

PROJECT BLUE BOOK

The History Channel’s new drama is based on true top-secret UFO investigations conducted by the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1969, known as Project Blue Book.

Project Blue Book, also known as Project Sign and Project Grudge, had two goals: to determine whether UFO’s posed a threat to the security of the United States, and to determine whether UFO’s exhibited any unique scientific information or advanced technology. Ultimately, they aimed to explain all UFO reports made to the Air Force. Thousands of reports were collected and analyzed, many of which were explained, but some for which there was no explanation, and in 1969 Project Blue Book was shut down.

Each episode of Project Blue Book is drawn from actual Project Blue Book Case files.

Why I’m Excited about Project Blue Book:

One big reason: I am intrigued by UFO’s and UFO sightings. I might or might not have seen one myself.

Project Blue Book kicks off January 8th, 10/9 C, on The History Channel.

THE PASSAGE

The Passage is based on Justin Cronin’s trilogy of the same name. Amy is a young girl who has been chosen as a test subject for Project NOAH, an experiment that could possibly lead to the cure for all disease, but also, it could wipe out all of humanity. Federal Agent Brad Wolgast is supposed to bring Amy in, but he becomes a father to her and tries to protect her.

Why I’m Excited About The Passage:

For starters, there’s the stellar cast and crew:

Written by Liz Heldens, who has been involved in bunches of amazing tv shows, including Friday Night Lights, Deception, Mercy, and The Orville.

Executive Produced by Ridley Scott ( The Man in the High Castle, The Terror, The Martian, Gladiator) and Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield).

Stars Saniyya Sidney (Fences, Hidden Figures), Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Truth Be Told, Pitch, Nobodies) Caroline Chikezie (The Shannara Chronicles), Henry Ian Cusick (LOST fans, need I say more?), Vincent Piazza ( Boardwalk Empire), Tim Fanning (Bosch, Bloodline, Sons of Anarchy), Brianne Howey (The Exorcist), and McKinley Belcher III (Ozark). Oh, did I mention Henry Ian Cusick? Really, you had me at Henry Ian Cusick.

Then there’s the plot. It kind of puts me in mind of the movie, Hanna (also soon to be an Amazon series), which I like very much, so I’m thinking this will be a series I can get into.

And last but not least, there’s vampires. What more could one ask for?

Series Premiere of The Passage is January 14th, 9/8 C, on Fox.

I AM THE NIGHT

The TNT miniseries inspired by the memoir One Day She’ll Darken, follows the story of Fauna Hodel as she investigates the secrets of her past, with the help of a reporter named Jay Singeltary, who has a past of his own that haunts him.

Why I’m Excited About I AM The Night:

The story has connections to one of the most infamous murder mysteries of all time, that of Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia. I am a sucker for murder mysteries and I’ve followed the Black Dahlia mystery for some time, so for that reason alone, I’m on board for I Am The Night.

Then there’s the fact that Chris Pine stars as Jay Singletary. Chris is one of my favorites. He is such a diverse and talented actor, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he does with this role.

Also, I Am The Night is a miniseries, with only 6 episodes. In a time when it’s getting harder to commit to shows for fear of them being canceled, at least we know what we’re getting with a limited series.

You can see the trailer here:

I Am The Night premieres January 28th, 9/8 C, on TNT.

I’ll be tweeting with the premieres of these shows if you’d like to join me. You can find me @rlblackauthor.
