NOS4A2 Season 2 Episode 4: The Lake House

Family is the strongest when they’re together. A lesson Vic learns quickly in The Lake House. But like always let’s start off with the more annoying part of the show, Bing Partridge.

Bing

Well thankfully Bing, wasn’t in too much of it, mostly his picture. When we did see him though he was getting gas ready to help Manx.

Tabitha traces Bing to an old church through his job as a custodian. Not following protocol, even after her boss explains that being one of the two women in that area meant they had to play carefully, Tabitha does not.

When Tabitha searches the house for Bing, he ends up coming up behind her and tries to kill her. She gets the best of him though and has him in cuffs, though I wish she had shot him dead. Charlie comes in.

Showing off the true badass she is, Tabitha shoots Charlie in the head and is able to leave the building. Thankfully, after the car brings Charlie back to life, Charlie decides he has someplace to be and to heal so Tabitha is spared.

Charlie and Wayne

Ok, I’m still trying to get over the fact they named their kid Bruce Wayne and call him Batz but it’s kinda cool. Charlie has the power to talk to children in their sleep using just a candy cane. I’m never touching one of those again.

After a few chats, making Wayne feel alone and unloved, Charlie gets Wayne to tell him where they’re hiding so he can bring him to Christmasland. Charlie’s now on the hunt.

Our big teddy bear is showing his teeth. He puts his foot down and while at her dad’s place, he tells Vic he wants to adopt Wayne so he always has someone. He also tells Vic that if she doesn’t start doing better he will leave and take Wayne with him.

Throughout the episode, we see that he really doesn’t want to lose Vic but is willing to if it means making sure Wayne is safe. It’s nice to see a show high lighting the importance of a family doesn’t have to be blood and the importance of adoption. I love how Wayne calls Lou dad.

Vic

Well, she’s a hot mess but hey we all hit rock bottom sometimes.

After her mom’s speech in the last episode about staying is the way to be a good parent, dad gets a chance this time. After Vic confesses to her dad that she feels like Lou is going to leave her, he tells Vic not to do what he did. If she really wants to keep Lou she has to fight for him.

Deciding it’s what she wants, she jumps into the water, and for the first time, we see Vic, Lou, and Wayne connect as a family. I really hope this isn’t the last time.

Making Promises

Vic later promises Lou she is going to stop drinking. Though you can see that Lou is skeptical he is willing to try.

He is also supportive when Vic takes Maggie to check on Tabitha.

After a chat with Wayne about the candy cane and Wayne basically saying she was the monster and Charlie wasn’t, she promised her son that she would change and be a better mom and that she would never get angry at him for talking to her about anything.

I really love seeing the proof that family goes through pain but together can overcome anything. I mean on his own, Wayne tells his dad about telling Charlie their location.

In Conclusion:

This was a deep episode on so many levels.

We had the tension between Maggie and Tabitha, Tabitha, and her job, Vic and Lou, along with Vic and Wayne making it heart-pounding enough.

Add the fact the episode ends with Lou telling Vic Charlie knows where they are along with that he’s still holding a detonator to live explosives, it really leaves your heart beating through your rib cage.

I can’t wait to see what happens next week.
