Killjoys Season 4, Ep. 1

Killjoys is back, after waiting an entire year we finally have Dutch, D’avon and Johnny back on our televisions, and of course, Pree.

At the end of last season we said goodbye to our favorite Scarback Alvis, and watched as the others fought for their lives that ended with Delle Seyah Kendry stopping the Hullen from their attack on all the Quad, and Dutch giving Aneela a serum that Zeph made her give back the memories that Khylen took from her – to save her from “The Lady” who lives in the greens and wants free to kill everyone. And the two of them going into the green together to stop her.

The Story Continues

And here begins the new episode.

It starts off with Khylen (a memory of him, as the world that Dutch is in is a world of memories) carrying a limp Dutch into what seems to be a fortress that them and Aneela found to hide out in.

Aneela immediately asks what happened to her. It’s nice to see this other side of Aneela especially towards Dutch since they’ve been trying to kill each other for a whole season. Khylen tells her he doesn’t know but the wound is getting worse, and tells her to go keep watch, Aneela tries to protest but he is stern, but she goes. Once again I love seeing this side of Aneela, the one that cares so much for Dutch.

Khylen tells Dutch he’s going tell her a story, something he loves to do, and that this one is one of her past, with Johnny Jaqobis, and that it will save her life. Dutch argues and says no story will save her life, but he says “this one will” and begins.

7yrs ago:

We are taken back seven years to Laruon Docking station in the Outer J. Where Johnny is being held at knife point for cheating people out of their money, with a find the ball under the cup game but there is no ball.

In comes Dutch (a name we learn where it comes from later, right now she’s still using the name Yalena) comes in and threatens the men, and offers them 40 joy (the currency in the J (the solar system the show takes place in). And they leave.

After giving him a lecture, she tells him she got them a job shipping beef wine to the Quad. Which he complains about but goes along with it anyways since they need money.

As they arrive in Old Westerley, a town on Westerley, which is a planet that’s part of the quad, they are stopped by people working for “The Company” and told they can’t sell liquor there. They are told that only approved venders can and they confiscate all their wine along with their ship unless they pay the 10,000 joy fine by the end of the day or their out of luck.

Pissed off they head to the nearest bar, and we see when Johnny and Dutch first met Pree. Pree gives them drinks on the house because he finds Johnny really good looking, and jokes he could make a lot being a sexer upstairs. After laughing Pree walks away. Dutch tells Johnny he can do it his way (which is stealing). And Johnny goes around pick pocketing and ends up getting into a fight, and a killjoy comes in and stops the fight and Dutch shoots him and they run with the money. I really loved seeing the origin of them meeting Pree, and seeing how they were prior to the start of the show. Because You really wouldn’t see Johnny as a pick pocket, and this is also the beginning to them becoming killjoys.

After they get away, Dutch tells him to take the money and get out of there and away from her. Johnny begins to argue, which now we are starting to see the caring Johnny we know and love. But that is cut short by the killjoy showing up and stunning them both.

That’s when we’re taken back to Dutch in the Hullen dream world dying of her wound from the mysterious villain “The Lady”. Aneela comes running in telling them she’s coming and that he needs to hurry helping Dutch, Aneela also asks what will happen if the wound reaches her heart. Khylen tells her it’s the brain that’s worrisome because that’s where the lady will get all the answers. Going back to Dutch He tells her to pay attention to the details and that’s what will save her. And with that eerie thought we are brought back to the past.

We see our heroes Dutch and Johnny at the Rac agency (the place killjoys work for) being questioned separately by the killjoy that Dutch shot. After a bunch of long useless chats he starts taking them to processing they were stopped and told they were on a “courtesy hold” and wanted for questioning on stealing from the company.

Their brought to Hills (the company soldier who took their cargo) who said some of their cargo got stolen three hours ago. The killjoy tells them that they were with him three hours ago but Hills doesn’t care.

While their bickering Johnny finds a UMD in one of the remaining crates. While Hills complains about still needing to know what’s in the cargo, Dutch finds left over cargo and realizes it’s poison they took.

The killjoy tells Hills to keep them in hold and he will take the warrant, find the poison and let that be that. The killjoy takes them back to Pree’s bar where Dutch talks the killjoy into letting them find find the poison and the people who took it and in return he lets Johnny go. He agrees to it after making Dutch drink a tracker.

All the while Johnny is rewiring the UMD to find out where it was detonated. After going to the location they find the guy who stole it and he told them the hit (Dutch had realized back at the bar the poison was for an assassination) was at a tenyer retreat on Qresh (the main planet In the quad).

Back on Lucy (their ship) Dutch tells Johnny about how the deal was only him getting set free after they retrieved the poison and to make sure it stays that way puts up a force field to keep him from stopping her, and told Lucy once they land to take Johnny and get him somewhere safe outside of the Quad. But Johnny is able to talk Lucy into bringing down the force field and going back to save Dutch.

Meanwhile We go to Dutch who is at the Tenyer , which is a thing that Some Qresh royalty go to after ten years of Marriage to decide if they want to renew their vows or get with someone new, and being asked about identification when Johnny shows up pretending to be her husband, and gives their fake identification and they are let in.

After they head up to one of their rooms, they have a spat but Dutch agrees to work with him on one last mission. Going down to the dance hall, they dance while Dutch tells him about the killer having fake documents like themselves and that they need to hack in and see whose credentials look off And to find someone there that doesn’t seem to fit in.

Back in his room Johnny gets the Id of someone who has blocked from other members from matching with him. So they figure he’s the target. Dutch brings him up to her room to protect him. And starts to try to have sex with him to keep the game up, but he tells her that he didn’t want to have sex with anyone and that’s why he had his name blocked. But Johnny gets a hit on someone with a falsified ID and tracked them, and when he’s about to leave his room gets knocked out.

The women who knocks him out tells him when he wakes up, whoever sent him there to disrupt her kill will be sorry, and they start fighting, and Johnny gets hit with Some of the poison she has on her. Dutch rushes in and starts fighting with her.

After knocking her out she ties her up and when back on Lucy, Dutch demands to know where the antidote is but the woman won’t talk. Dutch finds the vile but it’s key locked and the woman won’t tell her the code.

Dutch starts getting out her torture devices, talking about how she hoped she’d never have to use them again. The woman laughs and says that “girls like them (assassins”) don’t get a second chance.

At the same time their conversing Lucy wake Johnny up to tell him that Dutch needs him. He goes and stops Dutch from using her torture devices. He tells her she can change, that they both can. The woman whistles and undoes the lock on the antidote so she can give it to Johnny.

After delivering the assassin and the poison to the Rac, the killjoy offers them a job as killjoy but at that point Dutch doesn’t answer. Back on the ship Johnny tells her people can change and makes a twoyer ( a two year tenyer pact) with her that if she doesn’t like normal or being a Rac agent she can drop and go, no questions asked. And here we find how she got the name Dutch, as she asks Johnny for a new name and he calls her Duchess.

Back to the present

Back in the present, in the green world, Dutch talks about how Johnny always saves her. Aneela comes in and asks from who and Khylen says “me” and she walks off. Khylen tells her that first she must tell him the moral of the story and when she asks what it is “he says that her and Johnny always save each other so when your in trouble always look for Johnny. After that Khylen goes talks to Aneela who says she shouldn’t of trusted Dutch with him. Khylen tells her that Dutch has gone after the lady and when she asks if she’ll be ok, he tells her “only if she listened”.

We see Dutch run into the forest and call out for the lady to give her her all. And that’s where this episode leaves off, with Dutch lying in the snow. I love how the season was kicked off with a story about how Dutch and Johnny meet. And to see just how important their connection is. Can’t wait for more!
