Instinct Episode 10
Writer’s block. Anyone who writes knows how hard this can be. Mix that with finding out you’re dying and your life can truly turn into a work of fiction. As for Lizzie, she had to face some serious facts in this episode concerning her deceased fiancé Charlie.
The Crime
The episode starts out with a man going to a person’s house and when he opens the door, starts to scream.
Next, we are transported to Dylan’s home where he is making dinner with his husband. Joan calls and Dylan says to ignore it because he’s only on the third page of his book and then Lizzie calls and says they have been put on a case. He leaves Andy alone to finish dinner leaving us to believe everything on lovers lane isn’t all fine and dandy.
When they get to the home of Celia Baxter (played by Sutton Foster) she explains that she was attacked by a man in a fine suit and an animal mask. They also learn that she is an author and looking for a publisher and so Dylan recommends Joan.
When the blood test comes back it leads them to a wealthy man named Ben Richfield (played by Isaac De Bankole). Of course he denies any involvement, but can’t run long when another writer, Renata Pendell, turns up dead. Both Pendell and Celia had taken a writing course with Richfield, where he had stolen their work. His blood was found at the scene of the murder and Richfield is arrested.
Let’s get to the heart of the episode and that’s Lizzie and the truth about Charlie.
Lizzie is working on the investigation when she is told that Charlie was awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor for his work on the drug bust. She acted nonchalant about it and when pressed by Dylan said she had doubts about Charlie and his involvement. Lizzie tells Dylan that she is seeking Charlie’s informant, but he has gone underground.
Dylan talks to Julian, who then takes it upon himself to contact Lizzie and pretend to be speaking on behalf of Charlie’s informant. We learn on the night of Charlie’s death that he went inside the building during the operation and was shot. The belief was that he was playing both sides and this leaves Lizzie not only floored, but miserable inside.
I liked the we finally see Julian and Lizzie talk, but I wish it was under better circumstances. I want to see them become friends and trust in each other.
She then tells Dylan not to send his special friends to tell her things anymore. Now Dylan is very confused and confronts Julian. Julian then apologizes for thinking Lizzie was dirty as well. He then shows Dylan the accounts in the Caymans. Dylan remembers Charlie’s signature from his anniversary card to Lizzie and realized they were different.
When Dylan tells Lizzie this, she thinks about who would’ve been able to do it and figures out it was Detective Sousa. He was the only one alone that night and then when she found Charlie she thought he was trying to say sorry, but he was trying to say Sousa. Sousa was dirty and set up the accounts in the Caymans and then shot Charlie to put the blame on him.
Lizzie then arrests Sousa handing him over to the DEA. Lizzie accepts the Medal of Honor for Charlie and thanks his team for being there for him. She then thanks Dylan for helping her explaining that she had trouble asking for help and she was thankful he was there.
Dylan, his book and Andy
Dylan is having his own hard time. He has terrible writer’s block and it seems as though him and Andy might be going through a rough patch. I hope this isn’t true because they are such a cute couple.
Let’s solve the murder
Dylan goes and talks to Celia where he makes the observation that she has cancer. She lets him know she was right. She also lets him know that Richfield has stolen her idea for a book and that she had lost her whole family to a drunk driver when she was nine.
We also learn that Joan had turned down representing Celia years before saying that she hated every part of her book.
Dylan started getting suspicious the killer wasn’t Richfield when he rewatched footage from Renata’s apartment. Dylan, who stated that Richfield was about the same height as him would’ve hit the same lamp he almost did on the way to Renata’s apartment, but he didn’t – the killer went right under the light.
With the observation of Celia’s cancer and the death of her family Dylan did a little research and found out that Richfield had also stolen the story about her family as well for his hit tv show. They then found out that Renata was Celia’s ex-husbands mistress and started piecing it together and rushed to her place to save Joan from the same fate as Renata. They burst in and shoot the cup Joan was holding and the tea burned through the table. After making sure Joan was safe, they search the house and find a manuscript that described Celia’s whole plot and a note to Dylan to finish his book.
Dylan gets a call from Celia, who says she’s dying from cancer and they won’t find her. She also states that she hopes Dylan writes many more books.
We all hope that Dylan writes many more books and that him and Andy solve their issues.
