HBO’s Room 104 – Are You Watching?

Room 104 on HBO

HBO's Room 104

Welcome to Room 104…

What happens after someone checks into a hotel room? You know, that strange no-brand hotel off the freeway near any random American airport? A new HBO series will feed that curiosity. Appropriately named, Room 104 is the brainchild of Mark and Jay Duplass. Room 104 tells a series of unrelated stories – all within the walls of a very peculiar hotel room. Different guests have a variety of bizarre encounters and very strange experiences.

Whether it’s a women asked to babysit a young boy with a strange secret, or a pizza delivery guy that becomes involved in a couples perverted fantasy. Maybe a despondent man who seeks marital advice from a past friend, or a son trying to teach his technically inept mother how to use email. They each go through their own strange journey – A personal journey of self discovery all in the shadowy confines of Room 104.

It’s Never The Same…

Every episode takes place strictly within the walls of this hotel room. It’s where you see the stories unfold and you never really see what transpires outside of the room. You only live and experience the characters story within the room itself, adding a little mystery to the drama.

The Duplass Brothers deliberately make each episode unique in its story. No need to binge watch an entire season to understand what Room 104 is about! Much like a modern day version of the Twilight Zone, every story has an independent premise for the series. A story where the protagonist will learn some surprising fact about themselves or the nature of reality at the end.

This dark and suspenseful (yet at times humorous) series is a great watch for the casual TV viewer. Never a need to see any one episode to “understand” the series, but simply to be entertained for 30 minutes on a Friday night at 11:30.

Enjoy Room 104…I do!
