FROM season 2 builds on a solid foundation as it delves deeper into the mysterious town.
It’s time to stop going out after dark. FROM season 2 premieres on MGM+ on April 23rd. As the new season draws closer, viewers are reminded of the serious consequences of ignoring the sheriff’s bell at dusk.
Right before we left off, Jim makes contact with someone on the radio. We are not sure if this should give us hope or pause. Boyd and Sarah part ways in the woods and Boyd finds himself in a very tight space. Tabitha’s digging ends with her meeting Victor underground. All the while a storm rages through the town and inexplicable monsters wait to come out at night.
Now, imagine being even more unnerved than you were watching season 1. That’s right, FROM fans are about to be faced with fresh new horrors in the town that refuses to let you leave. But that’s not all you can expect. Be prepared for loyalties to be tested and characters to face new challenges. And let us not forget the bus that rolls up to the diner at the end of season 1. There is fresh new blood up for grabs. Take a closer look at what you can expect in FROM season 2.

Newbies are fun
When the two vehicles arrive at the beginning of season 1, viewers learn of the town’s monsters in real time alongside the new arrivals. We hear Donna’s story for the first time just like Jade and the Matthews family. But in season 2 we are no longer the new kids on the block.
It reminds me of that feeling when you enter your sophomore year in high school, that air of confidence that comes with having a year under your belt and a spot one rung higher on the social ladder. FROM season 2 gives us a similar perspective. We feel smarter than we did last season. We are insiders now!
Get ready to watch the new arrivals try to come to terms with unbelievable tales of monsters that come out at night. Some will get on board quickly. Others will test the boundaries.
But don’t get too comfortable
Yes, we have a leg up on the newbies, but get ready for new threats and more horror. I venture to say that some may be watching through their fingers even more in season 2. It also becomes uncomfortable when loyalties are tested among usual allies.
The show’s world view expands in season 2 both physically and ideologically. We will follow Victor and Tabitha underground and find out where Boyd actually ends up after entering the faraway tree. We will see people, places and things that we have never seen before. There will be new speculation and new fears.
New answers, new questions
I applaud the writers for the pacing in season 2 and I think viewers will be pleased. We can expect some real information about what has transpired in this mysterious place. Of course, new questions are inevitable, but I am impressed that the writers are not being stingy with answers. No one wants to be dragged along at a snail’s pace when you are as invested as FROM fans are.
Not only are viewers rewarded with information, I think it also suggests a level of confidence that the producers have in the audience. Fans have been posting theories and engaging on social platforms “from” early on. I think a well-balanced offering of questions and answers is something FROM fans have earned.

Standout performances
Casting choices and actor performances have been exceptional since the beginning of the series. If you think about it, our residents grieve every day for the loss of freedom to leave this place. Sometimes it becomes unbearable, and we see characters become a little unhinged. Liz Saunders as Donna plays this particularly well. Other times it is more subtle as you watch Boyd try so faithfully to maintain morale and leadership. But you can still see his pain and fears bubbling at the surface through the eyes of Harold Perrineau.
David Alpay who plays Jade delivers a fantastic performance as a genius who is not accustomed to relying on others for help. Jade is used to being in control via his intellectual prowess. The mysterious town in FROM strips Jade of that sense of control. It is maddening for him, and he has to find ways to seek answers collaboratively.
The dynamic between Jade and Tian Chen (Elizabeth Moy) is so satisfying (and hilarious) in season 1 as she is able to get through to him when no one else can. In season 2, Jade is desperate for answers from Victor (Scott McCord), but Victor’s childlike nature requires a level of patience that does not come naturally to Jade. David Alpay portrays Jade’s internal struggles with such finesse. Scott McCord as Victor elevates his performance even further in season 2 as Victor takes more steps outside of his own comfort zone.
FROM has several factors working in its favor. Season 2 builds upon a very well-developed concept delivered in season 1. Season 2 offers optimal pacing with a good balance of reveals and new questions. The horror is inventive, and the characters are relatable. Finally, the production design and set dressing is fantastic and allows for an immersive viewer experience.
I think viewers will continue to be very invested in the story of FROM.
