One billion… 1,000,000,000!

No, that’s not the latest Power Ball or Mega Millions jackpot – it’s the number of active users on Facebook!  I’d wager to bet you’re one of them and that you’re a member (of at least one) in one of the hundreds of millions of Facebook groups.  Have no fear – you’re obviously not alone. Social media is a fun way to chat about your favorite shows and meet other like-minded people.

Meet Scott – A Facebook Fan Group Pro!

You’ve got to love the show you create the group for…

Scott Garrison is a a fan that takes it to the next level. Finding a show he loves, he creates some of the most welcome and inviting Facebook fan groups I’ve run across. Ever run into a group that has “power-hungry” administrators? Groups that might have a few hundred people in it, yet no conversation? You won’t find that in any of Scott’s groups, as he makes it a point to welcome each new member and post content often to keep the conversations fresh.  He’s even smart enough to “recruit” other well-rounded fans to help admin/moderator his groups.  (Disclosure: I’m lucky enough to be one of those recruits in his Colony group.)

I convinced Scott to sit down and answer a few questions about his fan groups:

The Interview

SMS: Thanks for joining me, Scott.  How many groups have you created?

Scott: Four main groups.  TWD ZA Invasion Group, Group Outcast, Colony USA Fan Group, and a newer All Thangs GOT & TWD Fran Group.

SMS: Do you have a favorite?

Scott: TWD Group is the very first one I created and it’s a very lively group who love to talk about their favorite characters and episodes!

SMS: We’ve seen you “live-chat” episodes…What is that about?

Scott: We have live discussions for every new episode of the different shows we watch and we get to discuss the events that are unfolding real time!

SMS: Why should fans join one of your groups?

Scott: People LOVE to talk!  They love to interact with one another about their favorite shows. Plus they are the most enthusiastic fans you will want to meet.

SMS: What prompted you to start creating these groups?

Scott: I love to interact and have fun with the other fans about all the shows we watch. I just wanted to put my own touch on my own group.

SMS: Any TV shows you’re thinking about creating in the near future?

Scott: The Mastermind!  Anything Robert Kirkman does, I’m all in! So excited to see his new work!

Getting Personal

SMS: When you’re not moderating a group, what could we find you doing?

Scott: Spending time with my family.  Attending Soccer games and watching basketball and hockey!

SMS: What’s your favorite all-time TV show?

Scott: Of course, The Walking Dead! I’m a fanatic for TWD!! As soon as i watched the very first episode i was hooked!

SMS: Ok, then… You must choose… One must die.  Rick or Daryl?

Scott: Rick is the main character… if he dies, then the show dies with him!!

SMS: Thanks so much for your time.  One last question!  Any tips for people either currently moderating or considering creating a Facebook group?

Scott: You’ve got to love the show you create the group for…  You’ve got to love interacting with people and always be respectful and patient with everybody.

Many thanks to Scott for taking some time to chat – You can find Scott’s groups by searching on Facebook or checking out our PARTNERS page for direct links. Be sure to say hello if you join and if you have questions about starting your own group – We have no doubt that Scott will give you some advice and insight into what it takes.
