Damnation Moving to Thursdays!
After four weeks of airing on Tuesdays, Damnation is on the move to Thursdays at 10/9c on USA Network. The show will be taking a week off before Episode 5 returns on Dec 14. That means SIXTEEN DAYS will have passed since we last saw Creeley, Seth and the rest of the townsfolk in Holden, Iowa. After their last confrontation I’m chomping at the bit to see what happens next between the brothers.
It’s hard to believe that only four episodes have aired so far. I feel like I’ve been on a wild roller coaster ride of emotions since the first episode on Nov 7. When the show started we met Holden’s unorthodox “Preacher”; Seth Davenport (Killian Scott) who is helping the farmer’s in their strike against the banks. We then met the man the bankers brought in to break the strike, Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green). By the end of episode 1 we knew Seth and Creeley were estranged brothers and that there was a lot more to this battle then meets the eye.
A Quick Breakdown…
Episode one also introduced us to the other memorable characters that fill this show. Most notable to me are Amelia Davenport (Sarah Jones), Bessie Louvin (Chasten Harmon) and Connie Nunn (Melinda Page Hamilton). They are all strong, intelligent women who are as ruthless as the men around them. There are no stereotypical “weak females” in this show. Even the little girl (Alexis McKenna) accompanying Connie seems like she can take care of herself if need be.
The second episode asked us “which side are you on?” I have had a very hard time answering that question. The show makes it very difficult for me. While I side with the farmers, who Seth is leading, I find myself caring more about Creeley who is working for the bankers. So I have found myself wanting Creeley to come out on top over Seth in whatever personal battle the two have going on. But at the same time I want the farmers to win out over the greedy bankers. When asked what side I’m on, The Flock or The Strikebreakers, I still don’t know how to answer.
I Can Breathe!
Episode three was, for me, a chance to “catch my breath”. While it did not have me on the edge of my seat, it did a great job of building up the characters. It showed us just how big an ass the banker Calvin Rumple (Dan Donohue) is. We also learned that Connie is not just cunning, she’s crazy! We get a glimpse of Creeley perhaps having a heart afterall when he helps the Collingsworths keep their farm. Seth begins to come clean to Amelia about his past and we see tension growing between Amelia and Bessie. Overall a great episode, but I did miss the excitement of the previous episodes, but not for long.
The fourth episode came barreling back with “hold your breath” excitement. We received much needed backstory on the brothers, and discovered as a boy Creeley was “soft and sensitive” and beaten repeatedly by his father because of it. I loved the back and forth battle between the brothers in this episode, and look forward to more of their confrontations. We ended with the most exciting, heart pounding moment of the series to date. With the bullets flying you didn’t know who would be left standing at the end. The vision of Creeley standing there holding a bloody ice cream cone is burned in my memory. I cheered as Creeley looked down on his cowering brother Seth and told him “people change”.
Needing Answers!
Only four episodes in and this show has already elicited every kind of emotion you can think of from me. There are so many questions left to be answered and I can’t wait for Episode 5 to continue this amazing story!
