Could Netflix Lead to the Decline of Quality Hollywood Films?

We live in a world defined by digital conveniences. It is now possible to book a holiday reservation in a matter of minutes and without the need of a third-party travel agency. Thanks to the rise of VPN servers, television programs that might have been restricted due to our geographic location can be accessed and enjoyed without the need for a paid subscription. While these and other options have have a massive impact upon our lives, larger film-related portals such as Netflix might very well be recreating entertainment as we know it. Unfortunately, this could very well lead to some rather negative consequences if left unchecked. Might Netflix cause a proliferation of low-quality films? Let’s take a look at two reasons why die-hard cinema fans should be worried.

All About the Bottom Line

Hollywood has always been based around the almighty dollar. This is why it makes perfect sense that some of the highest-grossing blockbuster films of all time have also enjoyed incredible budgets. Whether we like it or not, the entire industry has become heavily monetized. This is why some names will refuse to work if the contract does not meet their financial requirements.

However, Netflix can produce films of a similar quality and depth on a fraction of the budget that most Hollywood firms would normally dictate. So, it only stands to reason that we have seen a rise in the number of independent films currently available. The only issue to be noted is that some of these are not nearly as engrossing from an artistic point of view; perhaps arising from the fact that lower budgets force franchises to hire substandard writers and producers with little palpable experience. As the expression goes, you get what you pay for.

What About Mainstream Actors?

However, judging the greatness of a film is slightly more complicated when compared to other reviews. For example, fans of gambling can click here to learn about which online platforms are rated the highest while golf aficionados can always check out independent summaries of the latest drivers. The quality and talent of an actor is often a subjective opinion. In fact, many viewers now prefer indie films as opposed to their mainstream counterparts; citing that funds have not unduly influenced the final production.

The only problem with such an observation is that this level of increased competition has placed a great deal of pressure upon Hollywood studios. They are now being forced to compete with indie filmmakers who can conjure up a talented work on a fraction of what would be required by such conglomerates as Paramount or Universal. Thus, even well-known actors might begin to shy away from films that would have otherwise made an incredible cinematic impact.

It is therefore apparent that Hollywood will need to adapt to the digital community. This equates to charging less at the cinema while still producing quality films. The main question is whether or not the moguls are willing to accept this fact.
