Jerry is not at the top of his game and dismisses any concerns with his therapist. Harry continues to scold Jerry for falling short in his responsibilities. Billets proceeds with reporting the writing on her car for both vandalism and employee misconduct.
Maddie pinch hits for Miller by recording practice testimony from Vincent Franzen. Meanwhile, Honey does her best to shield Franzen from the media and additional charges. I am not sure, however, if Franzen could be less grateful.
Chief Irving has a meeting with Mayor Lopez who turns around and admonishes him on live television. Alvarez gets a harsh interrogation from someone he believes to be with la Eme. La Mayorista gets picked up on charges that land her in Van Nuys while Mickey Pena attends Sonia’s funeral.
Both Vega and Pierce are getting nervous about their chances of being selected for the absorption of Hollywood Homicide at West Bureau. Antonio comes to dinner at Harry’s house.

No one is talking
The man who appears to be representing la Eme (Mexican mafia) is actually wearing a wire as he harshly interrogates Pedro Alvarez in the cell. Bosch, Edgar, and Collins watch from a video feed. Alvarez is visibly frightened by his cellmate but refuses to name anyone in Las Palmas as ordering the fire. He claims that there was no intention of hurting anyone. He says it was La Mayorista’s idea but then claims she did not give the order. Alvarez will not definitively assign the order to anyone.
Collins has some intel on where La Mayorista may be. Bosch and J. Edgar show up there with a warrant. Gladys claims to be house sitting at her friend’s apartment. Officers Hunter and Morgan are there to assist with the search. Office Hunter searches Gladys’ purse and finds a handgun, which Gladys claims is legal.
Hunter, Morgan, and Bosch clear the apartment while Jerry holds La Mayorista out in the hall. Harry’s search produces another gun and some drugs. When Harry returns to the hall, Gladys is talking with another woman while Jerry is distracted on his phone. Jerry says he was working out logistics for the boys with Latonya. Harry is angry at Jerry for not paying attention to the suspect and fears she has passed word to get her lawyer.
Back at the station, Bosch excludes Jerry from the interrogation with Gladys and asks Spanish-speaking Vega to join him instead. Gladys reveals nothing and then, sure enough, her lawyer arrives. But the detectives have enough probable cause to put La Mayorista in lockdown at Van Nuys. Vega gives Gladys her card should she decide to talk and make a deal.
As La Mayorista walks to her cell, a fellow prisoner quietly tells her, “You know too much.” Gladys looks nervous.
The Mayor vs. The Chief
Irving and Lopez have a short debrief at her office about the apartment fire case. Irving tells her that it was meant to be a warning from the drug operation according to Alvarez. Lopez pledges her support in finding the killers. The mayor emphasizes that the people want closure. The exchange is frosty but civil. She inquires about Irv having a meal with police commissioner Francis Alexander. Irv explains that Francis is a longtime friend. The mayor mentions Francis stepping down and Irving feigns ignorance about the subject.
Back at his office, Irv receives a text from Jun to look at the news. Lopez is holding a press conference demanding that Chief Irving find those behind the arson. She looks into the camera addressing Irving saying he “must do better” and that it is “time for change”. Now that does not sound very “supportive”, does it?
The chief is not happy about this provocation. He reaches out to an old colleague named Sgt. Cletus Brown and offers him a “special assignment”. Later we see Brown opening the car door for the mayor. She asks about the regular driver and Brown advises that there was a shift change. Is Irv spying on Lopez?

Billets on the offensive
Grace confides in Mank about the slur written on her car. He agrees that it looks like a cop’s handiwork. He promises to investigate it discreetly. Grace announces that she has already reported the vandalism and filed a 128 (conduct unbecoming of an officer). Mank is surprised and a little nervous for her.
Billets returns to her office to find Lt. Don Thorne waiting for her. He cannot believe she filed a 128 on one of his patrol officers. Grace points out that she never said it was one of his reports. In a fun callback to Capt. Cooper’s response to complaints filed about her, Grace says “Let’s just let IA do their thing.”
Speaking of Cooper, he asks Billets to come to his office. He complains about her not following chain of command. Grace insists that was not her intention. Meanwhile, Cooper neglected to express his concern for Grace until she pointed out that he only said he felt bad about the damage to her “car”. Weasel!
Later, Billets gets some interesting information from female officers Hunter and Lloyd. They tell her about the failure of Officer Leonard and Officer Norris to show up after responding to a call when Lloyd and Hunter were in what could have been a dicey gang situation. Apparently, they said something to Lt. Thorne, but nothing ever happened.
Could Franzen be any more self-absorbed?
Honey Chandler has her work cut out for working for Vincent Franzen. Not only is he a fraud, he also acts like a petulant toddler when he does not get his way.
Chandler takes him to one of her properties in the canyon where he can hide away from the media and any potential arrest for new charges. It is a beautiful cottage packed with all the essentials. She gives Franzen a burner phone to call her only if he needs something. He is not to call anyone else or bring anyone inside the home, not even a food delivery.
He suggests she does not trust him when she asks for his personal phone. Well, I certainly would not trust him after those fake gold bars! Poor Franzen does not want to part with his phone, but Chandler demands it.
Honey meets with the SEC to tell them that Franzen has information to trade.
Later, Franzen joins Honey in her office to work on his testimony for the DA about the insider trading scheme. Maddie runs the camera as Miller is out sick. Chandler asks Maddie to make copies of the video. As Franzen leaves the room he tries to act all fatherly telling Maddie to learn all she can from Chandler. He then pats her on the arm a little too long and leaves.
It is back to the canyon cottage for Franzen, but, of course, he is not following the rules. He has called his mistress who arrives by a car service. Franzen hushes Alessandra as he answers the door for Maddie. Maddie is delivering paperwork, a thumb drive with his video testimony and a laptop to watch the video.
As Maddie returns to her car noting that Franzen did not even say “thank you”, we see someone watching the house from another car. Creepy!

Dinner and a funeral
Antonio joins Maddie and Harry at the house for dinner. As a pediatric nurse, he talks about the pain of losing patients at the Children’s Hospital where he is a nurse. Antonio asks Harry about the pain he experiences with homicide victims. He wants to know if it “ever get[s] any easier”. Harry is quick to say no. He goes on to talk about Sonia, not just as “Little Tamale Girl” but as a real person who enjoyed life, did well in school and loved her parents.
We later see Harry join Donna Sobel at her house. Maybe it’s time for that night cap.
The next day Harry and Jerry drive to Sonia and her mother’s funeral. Jerry tells Harry he should not have scolded him in front of everyone at the station. Harry basically tells Jerry he needs to get his act together.
The homicide partners watch the funeral from a distance with Detective Collins. Mickey Pena of Los Palmas is there. Collins points out that Pena purchased the lavish cross flower arrangement. Harry walks away telling Collins and Jerry that he is going to “rattle [Pena’s] cage”.
Bosch steps past Pena’s security detail and asks how he can sleep at night. Pena replies he has no problem sleeping and curses at Harry.
Collins, Bosch, and Edgar go for tacos after the funeral. Harry assures Collins that they are monitoring any phone calls from La Mayorista and Alvarez in their respective jails. Jerry gets a call and says he must leave for an appointment.
Jerry’s holding back
Not only is he struggling with his partner Bosch, he is also disappointing ex-wife Latonya. He shows up at her house to take the boys to a movie. He learns that Latonya’s new guy Benny has taken the boys to the movie because they had not heard from Jerry.
Jerry has an appointment with Dr. Garcia. He claims to be doing well. J. Edgar lies saying he just went to the movies with his sons and that things are fine between him and Latonya. He denies that there is any self-medicating, insomnia, or depression. Dr. Garcia says he appears to be anxious.
A dead end
La Mayorista is looking very troubled in prison. She, too, is fearful of la Eme. She decides to make a call to Vega. The same woman who told her she knows too much stares at Gladys in the phone line. Gladys makes the call but only gets Vega’s voicemail and hangs up.
Harry has fallen asleep on the couch with faithful Coltrane by his side. He awakens to a phone call. He seems shocked by what he is hearing. La Mayorista has been murdered in prison. Apparently, la Eme did believe she knew too much and now the detectives will get none of that information from her.
In other news:
- We see Irv at the hospital holding his tiny baby boy. It is a striking image of the statuesque chief cradling the very small baby.
- Both Vega and Pierce ask Billets about their chances of getting selected to go to homicide at West Bureau. She confirms that both are in the running. Vega is relieved that her miscommunication with Billets last season is not a factor.
- The title of this episode translates to “you know too much” in English.
Cameos and Callbacks:
- Harry taking the “befores”, photos taken before the search of the place La Mayorista was staying. This reminds us of the non-matching before and after photos at the Danielle Skylar crime scene. You may recall that Irving shredded the evidence in season 5.
- With Pierce considering applying for D2, Billets cautions him on the difficulty of the orals section. This was the section that Billets did not pass on her Captain’s exam in season 3.
