Tensions run high when inter-agency cooperation is lacking and the cesium is still at large.
Bosch Season 6 Episode 2: ‘Good People on Both Sides’

It feels like the FBI is not always playing nice with the LAPD. Chief Irving intervenes when his detectives are not included on some findings in the case. Then the inability to agree on approach results in a deadly encounter with possible suspects in Bosch season 6.
Jerry talks to Dwight Wise about the murders of Marcos and Arias. Dwight also provides some photos that get Jerry closer to Avril. The former secret police and Jerry end up having a serious chat.
Maddie digs deep into the summary documents for her case. She finds something strange.

When cooperation goes by the wayside
Harry sits outside Casey’s Tavern, the bar that Barrel learned about from the sovereign in the park. He sees two men pull up to the bar. Just then Agent Reece pulls up alongside Harry’s car and tells him he cannot be there.
The FBI and the LAPD’s focus in the Stanley Kent case are not completely aligned, which is understandable. When the FBI withholds information relevant to both agencies, however, Irving calls them out.
The FBI has information on the 308s that they have not shared with Harry and J. Edgar. The detectives have been doing all their research on their own when the Feds had information all along. In an effort to cooperate, Brennar asks what Jerry and Harry need. They want access to speak with Alicia Kent again.
Brennar agrees and demands that one of his agents go with them. As the agents and detectives leave the building, Reece tells Bosch “Just make sure you stay in your lane.” The guys follow up with some snarky jokes about the agents and Agent Maxwell responds with a harsh expletive. Harry basically tells Maxwell to stand down and tells him that “[his] lane has no lines”.

Another chat with Alicia Kent
Harry and Jerry are escorted by Agent Sylvia Reece to the Kent home where they speak with Alicia.
They ask for more details about the assailants and history on her relationship with her husband Stanley. We learn that the Stanley and Alicia were married for nearly twelve years after meeting in graduate school.
Alicia describes the assailants as people who want to be soldiers. This sounds like possible behavior of the sovereigns. Kent also reveals that Stanley purchased a small handgun that he kept in a box in the garage. The detectives go to the garage with Alicia to see the gun, which is no longer there.
Dwight and J. Edgar
Edgar visits Dwight and talks to him about the murders of Marcos and Arias. Both suspect that someone learned about the IA investigation or that one of their “crooked deals” went south. They are worried that it may now be impossible to learn the full details of Gary’s murder.
Later, Jerry learns from RHD detectives Conniff and Espinosa that Dwight was also watching Marcos and Arias. J. Edgar confronts Dwight about tailing Marcos and Arias. Dwight felt he had to after losing his son. Worried that Jerry thinks he actually witnessed the murders, Dwight reveals that he was with his wife that night at choir practice where he turns pages for the organist.
Dwight shares photos from his surveillance and how the detectives kept intersecting with Avril at a place named Crenshaw Bar & Grille. Jerry and Dwight think this may be Avril’s “clubhouse”.

Maddie finds something curious
Harry tells Maddie to eat at the office to be safe. He cannot share the details of the possible bioterrorism threat but needs to ensure that she is safe. Maddie obliges.
Maddie is reviewing the documents from Dante Crow’s case and looks puzzled. She identifies that a witness in the case was given a plea deal that was not documented in the case. Young attorney Miller who works with Chandler gives Maddie some grief about getting through the summary by the next.
Later that night her dad suggests she take the missing plea information to Chandler, but she chooses to tell Miller first the next day. Miller practically dismisses her concern and says he will look at if he has time in his schedule.
Getting to the Strouts
The FBI agents and our detectives regroup at the FBI office. Maxwell shares individual files on members of the 308 group based on information he received from confidential informant Ben Craver whom we saw in the room with the map and three others in episode 1.
He identifies their leader Travis Strout and his wife Heather. There is also a file on Travis’ brother Waylon and Heather’s brother-in-law Dax. Harry identifies Dax as one of the men he saw outside Casey’s Tavern.
Bosch says they do not have enough to approach them. Then Maxwell points out that Waylon has an outstanding warrant for failing to pay child support. They agree to approach Waylon about the warrant as a way to get closer to the family.

Escalation at the Strout house
The plan is for Harry and J. Edgar to calmly approach Waylon Strout about the warrant and bring him in for further questioning. Harry and J. Edgar speak with Waylon at the gate of the property. Waylon notices the Feds. Brother Travis arrives with a grocery bag asking what is going on. Waylon tells him about the warrant.
Again, the detectives try to simply ask Waylon to come with them about the warrant. The FBI agents walk closer to the gate. Officers Powers is also on hand to serve the warrant. Waylon becomes agitated and balls up the warrant and shoves it in Maxwell’s chest. Maxwell calls for Waylon to be cuffed.
Officer Powers throws Waylon to the ground to handcuff him. Suddenly, Travis pulls a gun from behind the grocery bag and fires at law enforcement. A shootout ensues that leaves Travis dead and Powers hospitalized.
Seek and find
The detectives search the house with Officer Edgewood. They do not find the cesium but do find an attic full of guns and an IED. They inventory the guns and find a small handgun that looks like it could be Stanley Kent’s gun and the weapon that was used to kill him.
Special Agent in Charge Brennar arrives and is furious about the escalation and demands to know what happened.
Heather arrives at the scene and demands to be let through. She wants to see her husband. She makes quite a scene shouting that it is her property and she has not been able to reach her husband.
Jerry comments that the scene is “about to go viral”. Sure enough, we later see Dax at the bar watching the story on the news.
Alicia Kent’s car is found at Waylon’s garage along with materials that could be used to build bombs.

Stories do not add up
Waylon and Heather are brought in for questioning in separate rooms. Heather is distraught over the death of her husband. She reveals that the room with the map contained props that Travis used for his online presentations. Harry points out that the that pins correspond to Federal buildings.
Both Travis and Heather say they were Travis’ alibi, albeit it in two different locations, the night of Stanley Kent’s murder. Harry later comments that either one or both of them are not telling the truth.
They probe about the weapons and the cesium. Both say they know nothing about anything called cesium. Finally, Waylon asks for his lawyer.
Jerry and Jacques share words
Jerry waits at the Crenshaw Bar & Grille watching for Jacques Avril. He sees Avril park his car and enter the building. Later, Avril surprises Jerry when he politely knocks on his car window. A very polite but tense conversation ensues.
Avril offers for Jerry to come inside. Jerry says his car is fine. Avril sits down in the passenger seat. Jerry says he did confirm that Avril’s father was the one called the Butcher of Petionville. But the “butcher” left for Panama and was already there the night Jerry’s Uncle Antoine was murdered. This does not concur with Avril’s claim that his father killed Antoine.
Jerry tells Avril that Marcos and Arias are dead. Avril says he has been “a good citizen” and cooperated with any questions about his association with Marcos and Arias. Jerry refers to Avril’s time as secret police in Haiti asking if he meant good citizen like he was in Haiti. Jerry points out that Avril will not be protected by the government here in his city for any crimes. Avril claims he is “just a businessman”.
Then Jerry asks Avril if he has any knowledge of who would want to eliminate Marcos and Arias.
Avril: “The world is filled with angry, vengeful men.”
Jerry: “Yeah. I’m one of them.”
Craver out of reach permanently
Reece provides an update about Alicia Kent’s car and the murder weapon. The forensics team only finds Stanley and Alicia’s fingerprints in the car. Stanley’s missing hand gun matches the murder weapon per ballistics. Brennar pressures the detectives to solve the murder quickly. Bosch comments that things do not add up.
Bosch wants to talk to Waylon again, but Waylon has been taken into custody elsewhere. The agents and the detectives decide their last option is to talk to CI Craver again. They arrive at Craver’s apartment and no one comes to the door. They enter to find Craver on the floor dead. It appears that he has been dead for some time.

In other news:
- Cooper tries to suggest Billets undermined him by speaking with the Chief about Bosch. She explains that the chief asked for the captain but he was not there at the time.
- With the bioterrorism threat at hand, the chief tells Jen Kowski he needs to stop his campaign for a while. Jen informs him that Scott Anderson is poking around the investigation and tying feds to the shootout at the Strout house. Irving says they need it to stay quiet and he has a plan to utilize reporter Laura Cooke who has been promoted at the paper.
- Crate and Barrel revisit Teddy Hobbs from their CAPs (Crimes Against Persons) inquiry last season. Last year, Teddy was involved in a scuffle with someone he claimed was in his pan-handling location. The detectives are called to the scene where Teddy has been walking around nude soliciting payments for photos with him saying he’s a former child star. Teddy sticks his tongue out at their reprimand and cites “manopause” as his reason for taking off his clothes.
- Grace asks Pierce and Vega about their time at court for the body parts case. She learns that all went well and is proud of Vega for holding on to the case. She tells Pierce that Vega is “making [him] a rock star”. Vega is irritated with Billets again, especially when Pierce calls her Billets’ “teacher’s pet”.
