Harry finds a discrepancy that makes someone look suspicious. Rose & Associates charge ahead with the suit against the city and LAPD regarding the shooting of Nicole Davis. Detective Morrison struggles with his feelings about the circumstances surrounding the capture of Sharp.
Meanwhile, Maddie finds key evidence of the serial rapist and Mo sees who really had motive to murder Dr. Basu.

- Poydras and Franks are the detectives from Simi Valley. They asked Bosch what Vance hired him to do.
- Simi Valley is home to the Vance mansion.
- Detective Coleman is investigating the serial rape case involving Seeda Praetang.
- Seeda Praetang’s rapist is referred to as the “screen cutter”
- Detective Morrison set up the money drop with Nicole Davis’ mother.
- SSI Lt. Cosgrove wants Morrison to keep his account of Sharp’s capture aligned with his own.
- Vince Shipman told Harry that Dr. Basu was his mentor.
Sniffing around
While Harry is out of his office walking Coltrane, the hired assassin pokes around Harry’s office looking in drawers and through documents. When Harry returns with Coltrane, the assassin has her back turned to him cleaning the hall window. Harry greets her, but she just keeps cleaning.
Harry enters his office and senses something is not right. He sees the window washer walking away outside. Then he smells something, maybe bleach or ammonia. He looks down the hall. The “window washer” is definitely gone.
Having had enough of being tracked and followed, Harry returns to his office and pulls the bug from the lamp. He dumps it in his coffee.
Did the assassin find what she was looking for? What does she know?
Meanwhile, Honey makes her fake delivery to BioRIGHT LABS to mislead Trident and Corwin about the DNA testing of the potential Vance heirs. Someone is definitely watching her.
Harry visits Ida
Harry surprises Ida Porter at her home. She asks that they talk inside. He asks her if she is aware of the contents of the package she mailed. She says no. Harry asks if she will sign an affidavit confirming this. He explains the chain of authenticity and the need to prove authenticity of the package documents.
Ida inquires as to the contents. Harry tells her about the handwritten will and the gold pen. She says she would be happy to help with the verification except that Corwin has canned her – after 40 years – she says this a lot.
She is surprised to learn that Harry is the executor of the estate. Ida mentions Vance’s appreciation for Harry finding out about his son. Harry did not know Vance had given her this information.
Ida suggests that Vance was not of sound mind at the end of his days. Harry recommends that she not emphasize that. She wonders why. To her surprise, he informs her of the 10 million dollars designated for her in the will.
Harry suggests she hire an attorney about being a beneficiary in the will. She agrees to sign the affidavit the next day.
Rose & Associates on the case
Mo joins Matthew, Marty, and Honey at a meeting about the lawsuit against the LAPD. Matthew reviews what they know, and Marty asks questions about what they do not know. For example, who called out saying there was a gun and did Sharp really pull one? Was Sharp really given a chance to surrender?
Honey wants to know when she can see the police bodycam footage. Matthew is not overly optimistic because the police have 45 days to provide it. Meanwhile, Mo has been reviewing any other footage of the shooting scene on social media. Unfortunately, there is nothing definitive that could dispute the police report.
Later, Honey meets with another attorney who filed suit against the LAPD that also involved Cosgrove. Her case was settled prior to trial, however. She has little help for Honey’s case. While her findings showed that Cosgrove has a reputation for pushing boundaries, he still has a good track record and is liked by his peers. The other attorney did share that in her case the police settled because statements from the officers’ statements were suspiciously too similar.
Mo finds the bad doctor
While not obtained legally, Mo gets the last prescription audit run by Dr. Basu. One doctor stands out from the rest in the volume of opioid prescriptions, many of them being for homeless patients. That would be Dr. Vince Shipman, the doctor who told Harry that Dr. Basu was his mentor.
Harry checks in with one of the homeless patients on the prescription list. The patient denies receiving anything more than over the counter medication. The patient was stunned to hear that Bosch thought he was getting oxy from Dr. Shipman.
Mo runs surveillance on Shipman at night. Sure enough, he spots him making a drug deal. Shipman is not dispensing the medication from the prescriptions. Instead, he is selling the drugs.
Basu had just consulted with Shipman about the substantial number of opioid prescriptions days prior to his murder. It seems we have the motive and the murderer. Certainly, a doctor would know where knife could do the most damage in the shortest amount of time.

Musso & Franks
No, not the restaurant. Detective Poydras is now partnered with Detective Musso after Detective Franks tragically meets his demise. The two detectives want to know the real reason Mr. Vance hired Harry. They are not buying the long, lost roommate story.
Harry agrees to a quid pro quo question and answer session with the detectives. Harry tells them about Vibiana Duarte’s pregnancy and Vance wanting to know if he has an heir. The detectives share that after the autopsy results were inconclusive, they searched Vance’s office and found a pillow with his dried saliva indicating suffocation.
Harry tells them about Vibiana giving birth to Nick and that Nick died in combat in Vietnam. The detectives share who would have been able to see Vance the day of his death – chef, nurse, Sloan, Ida. Ida was the one who found Vance dead.
Harry reminds the detectives that Philip Corwin has motive. They assure him that they are investigating everyone. Harry inquires further about Ida. Poydras and Musso tell him that Ida would write letters for Mr. Vance and spoke of his stationery and gold pen at the crime scene.
Harry does a double take wondering how the pen could be at the crime scene when it was already mailed to him. He looks at the photos of their visit the day Vance died – the pen is indeed on the desk. But photos after the autopsy show the pen missing from the desk. Harry asks who took it? Nobody knows.
Time to sign
Harry and Honey arrive at Ida’s house for her to sign the affidavit stating she did not know the contents of the package before she mailed it for Mr. Vance. Before they go to the door, Harry calls someone telling them to meet at Ida’s house in thirty minutes.
Honey gives Ida the affidavit encouraging her to read it before signing. Ida looks it over and has no questions. Harry pulls the gold pen from his jacket. After learning from Harry that Vance does indeed have heirs, Ida hopes the pen will be passed to them. Harry agrees.
Ida asks when she should get an attorney to represent her regarding the will. Harry says she may want an attorney today but not regarding her designation in the will. Ida is confused. Harry tells her they are not filing the will.
Why not file?
Harry tells Ida that he has concluded that Vance did not write the will. In fact, he says, she did. He knows that Ida has been preparing handwritten documents for Vance since he was no longer able to and dd not want to draw attention to his weakness. Ida suggests that Harry is being ridiculous.
He tells her that the pen was in his own possession when Ida “supposedly” found Vance slumped over at his desk, dead. Honey chimes in telling Ida that a murderer cannot receive any funds from their victim’s estate. Ida will not get the money. Honey and Harry tell Ida that the police are on their way to her home.
What really happened
Ida tells Harry that his conclusion is incorrect. She says that Vance asked her to write the will because he was dying. He gave her the pen and she wrote the will on his stationery. He did not include Ida in the dictated will, however. Ida felt that was not fair after her years of service.
Ida took some of the stationery and the pen home and rewrote the document, including herself this time. Then she mailed the package just as Vance had requested. She thought he would be gone soon and never be the wiser about the change.
But Mr. Vance did not die. He suddenly improved and asked her to get the will back from Harry so a lawyer could prepare it more securely and officially. Ida realized that Vance would learn of the change she made. That is when she grabbed the pillow and ended his life.
As for the second pen, Vance had told Ida that the one sent to Harry was a duplicate. After the authorities left the scene of Vance’s death, Ida decided to remove the real pen from the desk to eliminate any inquiries. The detectives had already taken photos of the desk with the pen there, though. The next set of photos after the autopsy did not show the pen. She actually drew attention to it by removing it.
Ida decides to turn herself in and goes with the detectives. Poydras and Musso are sour that Harry solved their case. Harry understands that they must be embarrassed.
Looking for evidence
Detective Coleman reports that someone saw a masked man running through an alley around the time of the recent attempted assault. Coleman needs patrol officers to canvas the area and search for a mask and gloves.
When Vasquez asks about the likelihood of those items being in the area, Lt. Thorne assigns her to head up the effort. Vasquez is not thrilled but Maddie shows her interest in helping.
We see officers with clipboards in hand approaching residents and workers in the area. So far, no one recalls seeing the suspect. Maddie notices an inspection sign on the gate at a home in the area. She leaves a message at the number on the flyer for the inspector to call her.
Reina and Maddie search the trash cans in the alley. It is really gross going through the garbage, but Maddie uncovers the mask in a trash can, which could have DNA evidence.
Back at the station Vasquez congratulates her partner for her good work. Maddie stays behind and calls Preeda. She tells Preeda that they have a development in the case.
Playing with fire
At night, we see the assassin meddling with the electrical system at the BioRIGHT Lab. Shortly after, the laboratory goes up in flames.
Harry gets a call from Honey who tells him to check out the news. Harry sees the story about the fire at the clinic. He knows that Corwin is not backing down on his claim to Vance’s money.
Honey has another session with her therapist. She tells him about a strange dream. At first it seems like a fairly common anxiety dream. She finds herself naked in front of a group of people. It gets stranger when she says it was a dream within a dream.
Honey says she woke up in the dream before actually waking up in real life. When she wakes up in the dream, she remembers killing someone with her car. The therapist wonders if her dream victim was Carl Rogers, but Honey does not recall Rogers being in the dream.
The dream feels so real, that when she literally wakes up, she goes to check her car for damage wondering if it was really true. There is no damage to her car, but the therapist thinks she is feeling guilty about something. It seems likely.
Decisions, decisions
Harry meets with a real estate advisor about his home. She believes his home could sell for about 1.7 million without repairs. Spending about fifty thousand to repair it, he may get closer to 2.2 million.
Harry asks the real estate agent what choice she would make. She says she would take what she can get now and leave the repair issues to someone else.
Meanwhile, Honey delivers the real DNA samples of Vibiana and Gilberto to a different lab, California Coding.
Creepy phone call
As Maddie finishes for the day at her locker, she receives a call. It is the inspector returning her call. All seems well until we see the caller’s computer screen. The man has a search window open with images of Maddie!
The man introduces himself as Kurt Dockweiler and says he is not aware of assaults in the area. Maddie thanks him for returning her call and asks him to be on the lookout for any trouble.
Later, Maddie visits Harry. He is proud of her finding the mask, but Maddie insists that she just got lucky. They talk about DNA evidence not being helpful if the suspect does not already have a record in the system.
Harry tells Maddie that a good detective will look at any patterns associated with the attacks and similarities among the victims. This could help identify how the suspect selects the female victims.
What does Morrison really think?
Detective Morrison goes to the Davis house. Mrs. Davis answers the door, but she does not want to talk to him. He tells her how sorry he is about Nicole. She reminds him that she assured her they would keep Nicole safe.
Morrison is later approached by RHD Detective Joan Bennett in the parking lot of Hollywood station. She asks for more information about his report on the Sharp shooting. He reports that he submitted everything. Bennett mentions how SIS Lt. Cosgrove’s notes call Nicole Davis suspect #2.
Was Nicole a suspect or coerced? Morrison says she was in the car under duress. Bennett wonders why he was not clearer about that in his report. She wonders if Mrs. Davis could have fooled him about Nicole’s role. Morrison refers her to the recording about the drop, saying it is obvious Nicole did not want to be involved. Morrison says he did not want there to be such an obvious discrepancy between the reports.
Caught on camera
David Sloan meets with Philip Corwin at his office. Corwin claims he wants to “prevent false claims on Mr. Vance’s fortune”. Sloan nods in agreement.
That night, Sloan shares a recording of the conversation with Bosch. Sloan says he will continue to keep watch at Vibiana’s place. Harry will let her know about Sloan’s surveillance.
Across the street, the assassin takes photos of Sloan and Harry talking. She shares the photos with Trident who is enraged that Sloan is being disloyal to him. The assassin tells him, “I’ll take care of it.” Then Creighton calls to inform Corwin that Sloan is not loyal to their agenda.
Meanwhile, Harry calls Honey outdoors where he cannot be bugged to tell her the DNA results match Vance. Vibiana and Gilberto Veracruz are legitimate heirs to the Vance estate.
Heirs in the crosshairs
That night, Harry gets a call from Vibiana telling him that Sloan called about coming up for a security check. Harry thinks that makes sense until Vibiana shares that Sloan already did a check a little while ago. Furthermore, Sloan has a key, so he should not need to call her to “buzz him in”.
Harry jumps into command mode telling Vibiana that she and Gilberto need to get out of the apartment immediately. He assures her that he will find them. A dangerous and suspenseful game of cat and mouse ensues as the assassin hunts the Veracruzes.
Harry arrives with a crowbar in hand breaking locks on doors to get inside.
After navigating multiple flights of stairs and a fire escape, Vibiana and Gilberto hide under a tarp behind a locked door. The assassin breaks the door open, entering the room where the heirs are hiding.
The episode ends.
