Refresh your memory:

Let us investigate further the events of Bosch: Legacy episode 5.

A little bravado goes a long way

The Poly First Corporation security guard pulls a gun on Harry as he tries to slip out from his surveillance mission. Harry thinks fast and poses as John Creighton of Trident Security doing an undercover security test at the plant. The guard hesitates to believe him, but then Harry pulls out the business card that Creighton left for him at his office door. Quick thinking indeed!

It is Harry’s bravado that really makes the guard a believer. He has the attitude to really sell the idea that he is there testing security and that the guard has failed miserably. Harry capitalizes on the guard’s fears for his own job and convinces the guard to escort him out of the plant.

Crate and Barrel are waiting for Harry outside the plant.

Planning a second tap

Harry visits with Honey at her house the next morning and explains Rogers’ plan to appease the Russians and get them their money. Rogers is currently stealing gasoline via a tap into the Drysdale pipeline running beneath the PVC plant. But that is not creating the revenue fast enough to pay the Ivanovich brothers now.

Mo has cleaned up the audio file from Crate and Barrel’s surveillance mission at the restaurant. Rogers is insisting that the group create a second tap into the pipeline to steal more gas faster. You will recall that Wakefield and Penzak absolutely believe they will get caught because it is too soon for another maintenance shutdown and that will be much more missing gas to hide.

Rogers did not budge at the restaurant and that is when we saw Aslan hold up the key fob saying he could get rid of all the evidence of the operation in a flash, or perhaps we should say blast. Remember the explosives attached to the pipe at site of the tap?

Bosch wants to blow up the operation using signal for Aslan’s failsafe while the pipeline is shut down. This will destroy the current tap and eliminate the possibility of the second.

Time and technology

Honey is tasked with finding out when the group is planning to install the second tap. Mo is tasked with figuring out how to pick up the failsafe signal and get Harry close enough to detonate the explosives himself without anyone getting hurt.

Honey approaches Simon Wakefield while he is dining with his son and grandson. She already has uncovered incriminating information against Wakefield’s son Garrett, and now she plans to use it.

Honey tells Wakefield that she knows about his son generating fraudulent real estate appraisals and how Rogers utilized them for bank loans. She demands that he tell her when the second tap will be installed. Wakefield is caught in Honey’s grasp. Lev Ivanovich is watching from his vehicle.

Just as Wakefield gets the word on the time of the tap, Lev Ivanovich strangles Wakefield from behind and dumps his body and phone into the pool.

Later, Honey discovers Wakefield’s body when she comes to his home after not hearing from him. She retrieves the phone with the pool net and gives it to Mo in hopes of it being recovered.

A life behind bars

Honey meets with Samuel Kim of the U.S. Attorney’s office to make a deal. If she hands Rogers over to the U.S. Attorney with a confession to the murders, he can provide important intelligence on the Russian Bratva in exchange for leniency in his sentencing, leniency being life behind bars.

Kim does not understand why life in prison would satisfy Honey. She explains that she would be happy to have a long life of suffering. Kim agrees to the offer and Honey sets up a meeting with Keating, Rogers’ attorney in the civil suit. She tells Keating she wants to meet in person with Rogers present.

Plan in motion

Mo salvages the data from Wakefield’s phone and gives it to Honey. The pipeline will be shut down for emergency maintenance between 8 and 10 pm that evening. A desperate Penzak managed to convince his boss that the shutdown was necessary due to some potential leaks from corrosion.

Honey updates Harry with the time for the shutdown and tells him there was a blueprint on Wakefield’s phone that he sent to Rogers. She later asks associate Matthew to see what he can ascertain from the blueprint, which has PLANO written on it. Harry recognizes Plano as a name of a town and Honey recalls it as also being an import export company that Rogers has invested in.

Mo can capture the failsafe signal from Aslan’s key fob if Harry can get close enough to him. Once captured, Mo will blow the original tap while no one is in harm’s way. The key here is for Bosch to get close enough.

Aslan and his men arrive at Poly First Corporation to install the tap. Bosch is not close enough and Aslan’s truck moves further inside the plant. Harry needs to get inside the gate and get close before being noticed. Mo creates a distraction for the security guards who leave the garage to go check for coyotes or intruder.

With the guards distracted, Bosch climbs over the fence and stealthily moves closer to the garage where Aslan is. Then the guards notice Bosch from behind and call “intruder”. This draws Aslan and crew out of the garage even though he has a gun pointing at Bosch. Bosch inches closer with his hands (and the gadget) in the air.

Finally, Mo tells Bosch through his earpiece that he has the signal. Boom! Mo lights up the tunnel beneath the garage destroying the operation. Bosch races to the car where Mo whisks him away.

At the bargaining table

Honey sets her meeting with Rogers and his attorney Keating during the planned shutdown window. They are negotiating on the amount Rogers must pay out to settle the civil suit. Rogers’ phone buzzes with a call.

Carl Rogers is stunned when Honey suggests he take the call because it might be from Aslan. Rogers takes the call and learns about the explosion at the plant. Honey is in the driver’s seat now and instructs Rogers to turn himself in and specifies the amount he must pay Bella in the suit. Chandler records the conversation and has Rogers’ agreement on tape.

Mr. Vance is unreachable

In other news, Harry sweeps his office for bugs before calling and leaving a voicemail for Mr. Vance to call him. David Sloan stands over Vance’s bed while the billionaire barely hangs on to life. Sloan listens to Harry’s message on Vance’s phone lying at his bedside. After listening to the message, Sloan deletes it.

Ida knocks at the door to check on Mr. Vance. Sloan advises that Vance is still alive, but barely so. He asks Ida to sit with him until the nurse returns. Ida agrees and reads from a book of poetry at Whitney’s bedside. Upon completing the reading, Ida speaks emotionally to Mr. Vance about the 40 years she has been at his side. She states that he “never knew”. Is Ida speaking of an unreciprocated romantic interest in Vance over all these years?

Meeting an old friend

Harry obtains contact information for Halley Lewis whom Nick Santonello served with in the Navy. In fact, it was Halley that Nick posed as to take the swimming test that sister Olivia spoke of.

Harry goes to visit Halley Lewis. Lewis remembers Nick fondly but is sketchy on some details as it has been so long. Halley does recall a photojournalist who they met while stationed at Camp Pendleton. She interviewed Nick and they were undeniably smitten with one another right away.

Unfortunately, Lewis cannot recall her name, but surely this must be the woman with the baby in the photos in Coronado. Lewis knew that Nick had snuck back to the mainland at some point after going to Vietnam.

Maddie wants to help

Reina and Maddie respond to a pregnant homeless woman who has been hitchhiking from Oregon. Maddie arranges for the woman to get a bed at the Hollywood Hope shelter. Once the woman arrives to the shelter, she changes her mind and prefers to take her chances on the street. Did the woman see something or someone that unnerved her?

Later, Maddie gets a call from Preeda Saetang asking for advice on a security system. Maddie offers to stop by Preeda’s home and talk to her in person. While there, Preeda tells Maddie about an app that neighbors use to share crimes or unusual behaviors that have happened in the area. Maddie checks out the app the next time she is at the office and makes notes of screens being cut like the scene at Preeda’s home.

Goodbye Mr. Vance

Maddie meets with Harry for lunch. They talk about her visit with Preeda Saetang and different ways to approach being a cop. News of Whitney Vance’s death shows up on the TV at the restaurant. Maddie notices Harry’s concern and he tells her that the deceased was a client.

Harry receives call after lunch from David Sloan who tells Harry that Vance has passed, and he no longer needs to work on behalf of Vance.

Meanwhile, Vance’s successor Philip Corwin listens to details about the transfer of Mr. Vance’s shares and other details of his estate. John Creighton walks in and asks if Trident Security should continue tracking Harry. Corwin tells Creighton to start backing off.

In other news, the inspector checked Bosch’s home and will prepare an estimate for the cost of required repairs. Bosch is nervous because he did not maintain the earthquake insurance. Harry wonders if he may have to end up selling his home. He takes in the view from his deck like a welcomed breath.
