Harry makes gains in the Vance case, but someone is watching in Bosch: Legacy episode 2.

‘Pumped’

Bosch: Legacy episode two brings Bosch closer to answers for Whitney Vance. Meanwhile, Honey convinces Judge Sobel’s daughter Bella Winslow to file a civil suit against Carl Rogers. Maddie makes one mistake while trying to avoid another.
Let us investigate further the events of episode two ‘Pumped’.
Whitney is okay
Billionaire Whitney Vance survives the scare at the end of episode one. His personal assistant Ida found him unresponsive, but we learn that Mr. Vance fainted from dehydration.
John Creighton of Trident Security talks with Philip Corwin who is the named successor of Vance Aviation when Whitney Vance passes. Corwin is on edge. He clearly is anxious about anything that may prevent him from taking over the company. He is also worried about Vance hiring a private investigator.
Creighton tries to talk Corwin down and reminds him that, sure, there will probably be a bunch of people claiming to be a long, lost heir of Vance after he passes, but the lawyers will take care of it. And as far as the private investigator, Creighton has people watching him. That explains who was tailing Bosch in episode one.
Creighton leaves Corwin’s office. Corwin makes a call to David Sloan, Vance’s right hand man at his mansion. He feigns interest in Mr. Vance’s health but really wants to see what he can find out about what Harry is investigating for Mr. Vance. Sloan says he does not know.
Counseling
Honey visits her therapist who asks how she is sleeping and coping after the trauma of being shot. She is not sleeping very well, but some of the medication helps with her nerves.
Dr. Estevez asks her to speak more about what keeps her awake. She explains with great vulnerability that all she can think about is taking Rogers off the map herself.
As we can imagine, Honey is clearly unnerved after being shot and almost dying.
Tracking Rogers
Mo flies a drone over Carl Rogers’ property so he and Harry can surveil for cameras and other security measures in place. Bosch wants Mo to plant trackers on Rogers’ vehicles, a Mercedes, and the McLaren that Rogers pulls up in while they are watching. Carl gets out of the car with girlfriend Jasmine.
Mo is not sure where to plant the tracker on the McLaren, so he visits a dealership to inquire where he would be able to put a “magnet” (wink, wink) among all the plastic on the vehicle. A mechanic shows him a place where it will stick, and Mo gives the guy some cash for his help.
Meanwhile, Harry hires aspiring actor Jen to play the role of friendly patron at the nail salon to strike up a conversation with Carl’s girlfriend Jasmine. Jen is able to find out where Jasmine is going to dinner that night with her boyfriend who has just returned from out of town (or prison as we call it!). Jen tells Harry that the couple will be at Republique that evening.
Harry shares the location with Mo who then bribes a valet to get access to the McLaren while Carl is at dinner. Mo successfully attaches the tracker to the car gaining both GPS and audio from the car.

Civil suit
Harry and Honey meet to consider the next steps in taking down Rogers. Honey just “happens” to leave the Vincent Franzen deposition video open on her desk for Harry while she goes to brew coffee for them. Harry reviews the tape and thinks he may have found something no one noticed before.
In the video, Franzen mentions that Rogers “makes his nut on Wall Street”. No one has found any record of Rogers working on Wall Street in Manhattan. Harry suspects that perhaps Franzen is referring to Wall Street in Los Angeles instead, home to the fashion district there.
Harry also makes note of Franzen mentioning Rogers’ entanglement with Russian mafia. Bosch decides to head down to the fashion district to look around. Meanwhile, Honey will meet with Bella Winslow, Judge Donna Sobel’s surviving daughter. Honey tells Harry that a civil suit will be a way to distract Carl Rogers from their own solo investigation.
At first, Bella is reluctant to sue Rogers for wrongful death. She does not want to go through all the emotion of another trial. Honey convinces Bella that a good outcome is more promising because she will oversee the case. Bella agrees to move forward with the civil suit.
Honey meets with District Attorney Archer admonishing him for not giving her some advance notice before the announcement that they would not be trying Rogers again. She tells him about the civil case and says she will need the file on Rogers. When the DA talks about only being required to give her parts of the file, Honey makes it very clear that she expects the whole thing.
Shifting gears
Harry does not have much to report from his excursion to the fashion district. Now it is time for him to shift gears and work on the private investigation for Whitney Vance.
Bosch speaks to a records clerk looking for birth records from St. Helen’s Home for Unwed Mothers. Perhaps Vibiana gave birth to Whitney’s child before she took her life at St. Helen’s.
The clerk advises that St. Helen’s would not be listed on the birth certificate. Due to privacy requirements with adoptions, the location would simply be listed as a home birth. There are at least a hundred records for home births that fit that timeframe. Bosch requests them all.
Harry does an internet search for St. Helen’s. He finds an article about a social worker named Abigail Turnbull and mention of a 100th Anniversary party. Bosch decides to use this information as part of a ruse to reach this Abigail Turnbull.
Dominick
Harry wakes up with Coltrane curled up in the crook of his knee. These two are the cutest together! Bosch looks out the windows seeing two different cars staking out his office.
Harry again enlists the help of Jen to evade Creighton’s spies. Harry slips downstairs and out a different exit, sliding into the backseat of her car. He wants to borrow her car for the day, which is okay if he is back in time. She has booked an acting role.
Harry poses as someone named Dale when he visits St. Helen’s. “Dale” wants to tell Abigail about his mother’s passing, saying she knew Abigail when she was there while pregnant with him. The office worker informs “Dale” that Abigail has retired. In lieu of breaking the rules and sharing Abigail’s phone number, she gives him Abigail’s address instead. Go figure. . . hmm.
Harry goes to Abigail’s home and speaks with her. We learn that Vibiana’s baby boy named Dominick had a very low birth weight. Vibiana nursed Dominick helping him reach a weight at which he could be adopted. This time of bonding with the baby made it even more difficult to give him up. Sadly, she took her own life.
Harry leaves with the baby’s name, Dominick Santonello.

Help for Jeffrey Herstadt
Honey and her law associate Matthew review Dr. Basu’s murder scenario. How could Basu have had Jeffrey’s DNA on him if Jeffrey is innocent?
We learn that Jeffrey was treated by an EMT following a seizure at Café Etcetera. The same EMT responded to Dr. Basu’s stabbing the very same night. Honey and Matthew serve a subpoena for EMT Morales to be in court the next morning.
In the courtroom, Honey interviews Morales revealing the fact that he did not clean his pulse oximeter between the call about Jeffrey’s seizure and the call about Basu’s stabbing. With the same oximeter being used on each of their fingers, there is the chance that Jeffrey’s DNA could have been passed to Basu.
DDA Soldano drops the case against Jeffrey Herstadt. Jeffrey thanks Honey. Detective Gustafason who interrogated Jeffrey speaks threateningly to Honey after the proceedings. He says she will regret helping Jeffrey go free and that Bosch tarnished his police record by testifying against him. Honey tells Gustafason, “Move, asshole.”
Finding Sneezy
Maddie loses a suspect but gains a little respect from her training officer Vasquez.
Vasquez spots two known troublemakers on the street. She instructs Maddie that they will arrest them for jaywalking. Maddie searches the guy named Sneezy and cuffs him. As Vasquez searches the guy named Max, he yanks himself away and makes a run for it.
Vasquez runs after Max. Maddie is torn because she was written up before for not staying with her partner, but she has Sneezy in her custody. Maddie tells Sneezy to get on his knees and stay there. She runs after Vasquez. Max gets away.
Vasquez and Maddie return to the car to find that Sneezy has escaped still wearing the cuffs, the cuffs Harry gave her. Vasquez is livid and tells Maddie she should have secured Sneezy in the vehicle. Maddie is terrified of being written up again.
The two officers pick up Sneezy’s address book that was left on the ground. Maddie makes call after call posing as different people trying to find him. She finally reaches his ex-girlfriend who gives Maddie Sneezy’s address.
Reina and Maddie find Sneezy and recover the handcuffs. Vasquez lets Sneezy go with a fierce warning. Maddie does not understand why her partner let him go. Reina explains that she does not want to share the disastrous event with command.
Reina admits that she does appreciate how Maddie stuck by her.
The Ivanovich brothers
Alex Ivanovich picks up his brother Lev from the airport. Lev gets a gun from the glove compartment and opens a file written in Russian with Carl Rogers’ photo in it.
Earlier someone from the sheriff’s department gave Harry Carl Rogers’ phone and visitor logs from his prison stay. He also shared that somehow Carl acquired complete protection while in jail. No one messed with him.
Later, the audio from Carl’s car reveals a conversation between Rogers and his financial advisor, Simon Wakefield. Wakefield speaks nervously about an important meeting that will be held soon.
Mo also determines that the number Carl kept calling in prison was for a burner phone purchased at a SOKOL gas station in Bakersfield. He has the serial number for the phone.
Before Bosch and Mo can investigate further, the Ivanovich brothers show up at a SOKOL station and approach the manager. The manager insists that they are paying their share to the mafia collectors.
Lev and Alex drag the manager out to the gas pump. The clerk inside presses buttons on a screen. At first, I thought he was calling 911, but no, he was turning on the pump! The brothers horrifically drown the manager with gasoline. Apparently, these are some of the “unsavory” associates of Rogers that Franzen referred to in his deposition.
Closing out the day
Harry is in his office looking through the birth certificates he obtained. He comes to the one for Dominick Santonello.
Meanwhile, Honey is at home getting ready for bed. Standing in her pajamas in front of the mirror, she brushes her finger across the scars from the two gunshot wounds.
Bosch: Legacy is heating up fast with the arrival of the Ivanovich brothers and Dr. Basu’s murderer still being on the loose. Thank goodness Maddie recovered her father’s handcuffs. Harry has made some significant progress in the Vance heir investigation. What will he uncover next? Honey is skillfully defending her client, during the day, but will she be able to sleep through the night?
