Honey takes on a murder case and Maddie returns to work in Bosch: Legacy S2E3.
Bosch: Legacy S2E3 ‘Inside Man’

Lexi Parks
Lexi Parks and her husband Vince Harrick work opposing schedules and must find time together where they can. Vince is headed out for his shift as a sheriff’s deputy, while Lexi has just returned from her job as the Assistant City Manager for West Hollywood. The couple plans to share breakfast when Vince returns.
The next morning comes, and Vince calls out for his wife. She is not up prepping the coffee as planned. Horrifically, he discovers her brutally murdered body in their bed.
4 months later
Four months have passed since Lexi’s murder. We find Maddie at a pool. She completes an unusual regimen of laps followed by holding her breath at the bottom of the pool. Maddie uses a weighted belt to keep her below water while she watches the seconds tick by on her watch. She appears to be pushing for 1 minute 30 seconds. As bubbles rise to the surface, Maddie unlatches the belt and rises to the surface.
Harry’s house
Meanwhile, Harry is outside his home talking with the contractor who has been refurbishing the house after it was retagged last season due to an earthquake. The contractor makes a few suggestions, but Harry notes that the project is already over-budget. Harry asks for the punch list and says he would like to finish the final steps himself. Maximo warns him about LA’s strict code enforcement, but Harry says he will be fine.
Maddie arrives home from swimming and asks her dad why he fired the contractor. Bosch insists he did not truly fire Massimo. He simply did not need his services anymore. Harry asks Maddie about an album he has borrowed for her to listen to. She has not had time to check it out, so Harry will probably go ahead and return it.
Harry asks about making plans for dinner. Maddie informs him that that she may already have arrangements elsewhere. Harry casually asks if her plans are with a boyfriend to which Maddie responds, “Maybe.”
David Foster arrest
The police escort a man named David Foster to a police car announcing that David is being arrested for the murder of Lexi Parks. David’s wife is in shock. He tells her to call Honey Chandler.
Honey arrives to work at Rose & Associates. Martin Rose greets her and informs her that her former client David Foster wants her to represent him.
Maddie on the job
Maddie has returned to work. We learn that she is working the front desk. She talks with her training officer Reina Vasquez telling Reina that she is not sleeping well and hoping to move out of her dad’s house. We learn that Vasquez has a new position working for CRU (Crime Reduction Unit) at Hollywood station. Maddie is envious because she is not getting action on the front desk.
Maddie passes Rico in the hallway. They speak in hushed tones about meeting up later, looking around to make sure no one notices. Rico teases Maddie about not getting harmed by paper cuts on duty and they both laugh.
FBI visits Honey
Matthew informs Honey that the FBI is there to speak with her. Two agents, Agent Sylvia James and Agent Lucas Jones try to intimidate Honey with suggestion of her involvement in Carl Rogers’ and his attorney Mr. Keating’s murders. They ponder why Honey and Harry had been in close proximity to the shipping container that turned up with dead bodies. They also note a cell phone transmission between the two of them.
Honey simply informs them that she is unable to help them. She has nothing to say on or off the record, for that matter. The agents respond by indicating that she may then be called by their grand jury. Honey instructs them to leave, and they warn her not to destroy any records of any format related to this case.
Martin comes to Honey after the FBI agents leave. She simply says they are “fishing”.
Heads up, Harry
Honey meets Harry to give him a heads up about the FBI inquiry. Bosch is not overly concerned saying that only have a partial text exchange. He notes that if they do not talk to the grand jury, the case will not go very far. Harry does point out, however, that Honey coming straight to him is probably what the FBI expected her to do.
He asks if she feels guilty. She replies that she does not. Nor does Harry. Bosch offers to let Mo, Crate and Barrel know what’s going on as well since they, too, were involved.
Harry asks Mo to access the law firm’s email to see if Martin and Matthew are talking to the feds. He then visits Crate and Barrel who are happy to “in a pickle, take the nickel [Fifth Amendment]”. They employ some of their trademark shtick to explain that retirement makes them a lot less worried what people think. Bosch rolls his eyes and implores them to “get some new material”.
Maddie works a caper
Maddie receives a report from a woman about a stolen bracelet. The woman left her car unlocked with a $35,000 vintage Cartier bracelet in a bag on the passenger seat of her car while she made a return at the store. The woman is just going through the motions because her insurance makes her file a report.
Maddie wants to work the case and not just write it up. She reviews the security footage from the camera at the store. Maddie watches the theft take place but cannot make out the license plate of the getaway car. Interestingly, she sees that a Tesla was parked just ahead of the car where the bracelet was stolen. Maddie meets with the Telsa’s owner to review the video feed from the car. Sure enough, she is able to obtain the license plate of the getaway car and solves the crime.
Maddie shares her findings with Vasquez who is impressed with Maddie’s work. Also, she is not at all surprised that Maddie went above and beyond just taking the initial report.
When the woman whose bracelet was stolen returns to the station, she is only interested in getting her bracelet back. She is not interested in pressing charges and insists that Maddie tell the assigned detective to drop them.
Honey with her client
Honey meets with David Foster and asks if he knew Lexi Parks. He did not. Does he have an alibi? He claims he was home with his wife Louis for their date night.
Inside the courtroom, Honey requests the arraignment continue after she has a chance to review discovery. Judge Simon Newland offers David Foster 30 days, and he accepts. No bail is assigned to the case, so David will remain in lockup. The DA’s office will have discovery by the end of the day. The prosecutor also drops big (bad) news for David. The lab reports that David’s DNA was found at the scene and inside Lexi’s body.
Who is the ‘Inside Man’?
Mo and Harry try to figure who is the “inside man” that the episode title refers to. Mo has uncovered an encrypted email exchange from the law office that contains the schematic of the shipping container where Carl Rogers was murdered. So, who is talking? Martin or Matthew? Mo suspects it’s Matthew noting hilariously that “old man Rose can barely operate the fridge”. But, hey, you never know.
Mo follows Martin when he leaves the law office. Harry follows Matthew. Martin ends up at home for the night. Matthew, however, goes to a restaurant. Harry asks Mo to come take surveillance photos of the restaurant. It turns out that Matthew is there meeting with the Feds who are dressed undercover as tourists.
Where has Maddie been?
Maddie meets with her friend Paulina who shared the same class at the police academy. Paulina was shot on duty last season and has not yet returned to work. She asks Maddie what it’s like being back at work even though it’s not in the field.
Later at home, Harry looks at the photos Mo captured of Matthew with the Feds. He then calls Maddie leaving a message to check on her. Maddie is in bed with Rico. It appears she had a couple of different plans for the evening.
You’re hired, Harry
Harry meets with Honey to give her the news about Matthew working with the FBI. Honey is very disappointed, but they decide to keep Matthew going with the Feds. They may be able to use that relationship for their own benefit. Honey suggests that she can supply false information through Matthew. This will allow the FBI to fall into entrapment, which would negate the case. Harry is on board.
Meanwhile, harry and Honey need a cover to explain the time they will be spending together. Honey hires Harry on the spot to be investigator on the David Foster case. She gives him the very same dollar bill that she gave him last season as payment for his services.
Getting started
Harry’s first act as investigator is to take a look at Lexi Park’s house. The home is not for sale. Harry looks at the house from the sidewalk. A neighbor joins him, sharing the horrific circumstances under which the house was put on the market. Harry drops a couple of questions. He asks if the neighbor heard anything at the time of the assault. She did not. Did the dog bark? There is no dog, just a “Beware of Dog” sign. He also learns that the alarm was not set.
Who is James Allen?
We are introduced to a character named James Allen. He meets potential johns at a bar. James learns of a customer waiting for him. The customer asks if James would like to leave with him. The pair end up at James’ hotel room. James hears a rumbling engine and sees bright headlights of a car outside. James excuses himself and goes outside.
The john looks outside the door and both the car and James are gone.
David Foster knows James
Honey meets with David Foster’s wife Louise to discuss David’s alibi. She is hoping to learn something more about that evening that could corroborate David’s statement about being home. Louise finally admits that David was not home that night. She suspects that he has been doing drugs again and was out for that purpose.
Honey pays a visit to David at the prison. David tells her that he began doing drugs again about 6 months ago. He tells her that his dealer is named James Allen, and that is whom he was with the night of Lexi’s murder. Honey is displeased with David lying originally and asks for James’ number.
Later, back at the office, Honey informs Matthew that she has hired Harry to be the investigator on David’s case. She requests all records on the case.
That evening
FBI Agents James and Jones are waiting for Bosch when he returns home. They have a subpoena for him to appear before the grand jury. Bosch advises them to leave it on the table and get out of there. They try to rattle Bosch telling him they know about him blowing up the pipeline. Bosch does not flinch.
Honey goes to a mediation class. She spots a gentleman looking at her during class. He comes up to her after class and tries to chat with her. She is polite but disinterested.
Later, Honey talks to Bosch on the phone. She informs him that the wife’s alibi was false. Honey tells Harry that David was with his dealer, James Allen, doing drugs the night of the murder. Harry reports that he has not found any point of intersection between David and Lexi.
Meanwhile, the FBI agents meet with their boss Will Barron (played by Anthony Michael Hall). They want to tap Bosch’s phone but will not be able to do that for a legal firm. They need Honey and Harry to testify at the grand jury. Barron reminds them of the saying on the wall, “Dig Deeper” and the agents head out. The camera pulls away as we see Barron reviewing a giant board of suspects, victims and events related to Carl Rogers’ murder.
Extortion
We see a man and women involved in a rendezvous. Then the woman, seemingly much younger than the man, asks him to answer the door as she has ordered food for them.
There is no food at the door. Two gruff, intimidating men greet him with video of the man having sex with the woman. They talk about sharing it with the man’s wife and daughter. Clearly, they want money, and the man asks, “how much?”
Time for bed
Maddie arrives home where Harry is reviewing the Lexi Parks murder file. Maddie asks to see what he is working on. He hesitates but eventually lets her have a look. They both agree it’s disturbing. Maddie is confused as to why Harry is working with Honey again. She thought he called off that arrangement. He tells her that he sees Maddie’s face when he looks at the murder victim. Plus, he believes Honey’s client is innocent.
Harry also brings up Dockweiler’s sentencing. Maddie is not anxious to discuss that topic, nor give much of an update on her victim impact statement. She says she needs to go to bed. Maddie goes to her room, closes the door and puts her firearm under the pillow next to her. She leaves a light on and lies on the bed to sleep. But she does not sleep. She remains awake.
