Spoiler alert! The following article contains spoilers from season 2 of A Million Little Things. Read on only if you are current with the episode titled The Kiss.
ABC’s A Million Little Things is finally back from its winter break and wasted absolutely no time diving right back into the drama of the series.
Sophie:
After Delilah revealed the truth that Eddie is actually Charlie’s father, not Jon, Danny, though clearly upset, seems to have taken the news in stride. Sophie, however, is pissed and is taking it all out on her mom. She’s acting out, Disrespecting Delilah, refusing to seek help through therapy, and even refusing to attend Danny’s production of Grease. Sophie and Delilah end up having a fight in front of Regina at her restaurant. After seeing the way Sophie snapped at Delilah, Regina decides to try and speak with her. It’s during that conversation that Sophie reveals that Delilah isn’t necessarily the problem. It’s Eddie. While she feels that both Delilah and Eddie were in the wrong, it’s Eddie who truly went against her dad’s trust.
Danny:
Danny is super excited about the opening night of Grease. However, his evening is in jeopardy of being tarnished now that his sister won’t be attending. Also, he’s super nervous about having his first-ever kiss on stage, in front of an audience, and above all things, with a girl! His nerves aren’t exactly calmed when he catches Gary, fresh from receiving an “all clear” STD test from a clinic, kissing his social studies teacher. It’s here that Danny confronts Gary about his recent weird and destructive behavior. Danny trusts Gary. He looks up to him as a father figure now more than ever. He delivers an adorable line saying, “a kiss is supposed to mean something,” before storming off.
Gary:
Gary’s STD tests may be all clear, but his attitude needs an adjustment for sure. Throughout much of the episode, we see Gary walking around town in a huff. He’s dealing with major anger issues and is severely distracted, and basically hooking up with every woman he can find. At one point, Gary is so distracted while walking, he steps off a curb into the street and narrowly escapes being hit by a car. With his intense rage, he yells and punches at the car passing by, even though he was in the wrong.
Rome and Regina:
Rome and Regina are taking steps toward adopting a child. They are meeting with a social worker to submit their application, and discuss some options. The social worker is quite impressed with Regina’s preparedness, especially the fact that she has completely filled out the medical history form for both herself and Rome. Upon hearing this, Rome gets a little nervous wondering what the social work will think of his past dealings with depression. Regina reveals that she left out the part about Rome’s depression because she didn’t want to hurt their chances of being approved. The couple is left wondering if they did the right thing by not being completely honest on their application.
Maggie:
In the wake of her breakup with Gary, Maggie is living with Eric. The two are out at a coffee shop talking about online dating profiles and swapping dating stories. The barista playfully suggests that perhaps they should date each other. While both Maggie and Eric laugh off the idea as being absolutely absurd, perhaps that barista planted a seed of an idea.
Eddie and Katherine:
Eddie and Katherine have some new drama brewing at home. While Theo is aware and accepting that Eddie is baby Charlie’s real dad, he’s also asking questions about Eddie’s sister whom he’s never met. Eddie’s sister sent a baby gift to the house, and by Katherine’s reaction, it’s clear that she is some type of trouble.
Theo asks why he’s never met his aunt, and Katherin and Eddie decide to tell him the truth. Eddie begins the difficult conversation telling Theo that his sister suffers from a problem; she’s an alcoholic. As if that wasn’t enough of a truth bomb, Eddie takes things one step further. He also chooses to divulge that he himself suffers from the same issue. Theo is the absolute cutest thing in the world and tells Eddie that he’s proud of him.
Grease Opening Night:
Gary sees Maggie for the first time at Grease. To quickly avoid the situation, Gary runs off looking for a bar. He finds a dessert table. Not quite what he was looking for, but anything to avoid the awkwardness with Maggie.
Regina works some magic and convinces Sophie to attend opening night, but as we all expected, things quickly go downhill. Sophie refuses to sit next to her month, thus forcing Gary to sit next to Maggie, which is perhaps the most awkward thing ever.
At Intermission, Maggie tries to talk with Gary about their breakup and tries to communicate that she’s worried about him. Of course, Gary’s not here to hear that. He’s still upset over the breakup, but more so over the fact that immediately, Maggie ran to Eric for help. Ultimately, the discussion ends with him walking to the back of the theater to watch the rest of the show in peace.
Danny’s Big Kiss:
Unknowing of all the drama happening in the audience, Danny is backstage taking everything in and preparing for his awkward first kiss. It’s then that he sees his crush Elliot standing in the wings. Danny works up the courage to confront him too. He tells Elliot about how it hurt being ignored by him. With his emotions about to boil over, Danny tells Elliot that now he’s about to have his first kiss on stage with a girl but he really wished that his first kiss was with him. It’s then that Elliot steps up to the plate and kisses Danny in the backstage light. Danny’s nerves have now vanished. He’s had his first real kiss. It meant something, and that’s all that he wanted. The rest of the show, and his on-stage second kiss, go off without a hitch.
After Grease:
Delilah tries to talk with Sophie one more time, but of course, Sophie’s still not having it. After a major blow out argument with Delilah and Eddie at the school production, Sophie says she refuses to live at home anymore. Instead, she’s staying with Regina and Rome for the time being.
Rome’s conscience has gotten to him, and he tells Regina that they need to change the medical history forms. He can’t adopt a child knowing they lied about his depression. Regina agrees and revised the medical history to include Rome’s depression.
Eddie tells Katherine that something feels different about this time with his sister. She’s reaching out to him for a reason and he wants to be there for her.
For the second time in the episode, Gary is mad storming around town and steps off a curb without looking. For the second time, he almost gets hit by a car. He punches the car as it drives by, but this time, the car stops. A ginormous man gets out and Gary begins to approach him to fight. The guy points a gun in Gary’s face. Gary stops in his tracks. Luckily, he gets back into his car and drives off. Gary is clearly shaken.
What… Just… HAPPENED??
The mindblowing ending of the episode comes from Maggie and Eric. The two friends end up kissing back at Eric’s place which equally freaks both of them out. Maggie ends up leaving the apartment in embarrassment. After she’s gone, Eric takes off his shirt and reveals there is no scar on his chest. He clearly did not receive her brother’s heart in a transplant and is lying to her, but why?
